Happy Halloween everyone! I want to share some good news: yesterday our hero (aka the UPS guy) showed up with a limited quantity of our super-cute Kitty Kisslock Bag!

Seems appropriate for Halloween – black cat and all. Also, today is the last day to leave a comment and be automatically entered to win a ModCloth Gift Bag! We’ll randomly draw the winner at midnight (spooky!) and announce the lucky guy or gal tomorrow morning.

It’s that day again… the day we take time out and thank our lucky stars for items that are beautifully ugly. Today’s Awefulsome Tuesday post is dedicated to a non-vintage item that we just got in:

patchwork fantastic
The Asymmetry Clutch

Why do we love it? Well, it’s metallic purple patchwork in faux animal skin. Seriously.

Purple is the color of Fall, but no one wants to look like they ripped off the mannequins at H&M. An individual touch is always necessary, and we like to keep things real with a little dose of the unexpected.

Imagine yourself out at a smoky bar or dance night, in your usual jeans and cute top routine. Now imagine yourself holding this bag… better, right?

When clothing and fashion are not just a passion but also your job, Halloween can be a daunting holiday. Especially in the ModCloth office, with all this incredible vintage clothing floating around… how’s a girl to choose?

This weekend we all managed to find a costume and take a picture together. Please excuse the haze – the party had a fog machine!

ModCloth HQ isn’t just a place for fashion obsession… we are also obsessed with our pets. It’s true: we love to take pictures of them, we love to talk about them, and of course we think they are all wonderfully gifted (even when they’re running into tables or chasing shadows).

You’ve met Winston, our indomitable little mascot and blog regular. Inspired by him, we’re starting a new weekly feature called Fluffy Friday – a place for all things cute n’ fluffy! Send us your favorite pet pictures, and tell us what you love most about your fluffy friend. Every Friday we’ll recap the week’s cuteness here.

I’ll start the feature with pictures of my strange and adorable cat, Voodoo, playing with shoelaces.

Voodoo has many different meows, and he likes to show them off… constantly. Sometimes I swear he’s trying to talk to me.

At night, he likes to sit in a corner of my room and stare at me until I fall asleep.

Somehow I think that’s cute instead of creepy.

Email us your pet snapshots at blog@modcloth.com!

Sometimes when I tell people what I do for a living – “I sell vintage and vintage inspired fashion online” – I get a mixed reaction.

“So… you sell used clothing? Something that someone else has worn before?”

As if it’s a bad thing. For me, part of the appeal of vintage is the history. I like imagining the stylish working woman of the ’40s who wore that 2 piece suit or the disco diva in the ’70s who bought that maxi dress for a night out.

One of my favorite necklaces is a vintage locket that I found at a Goodwill for a few dollars. Besides being incredibly beautiful and ornate, it still has pictures of the previous owner’s kids (or maybe grandkids) in it and, for me at least, it really adds charm.

So now I want to know… why do you wear vintage?

It’s another gloomy, rainy day in Pittsburgh…you know what that means!

This was taken just a second before a bark – probably a complaint about being put on a mushroom. Keep reading for a close-up…

StyleBytes.net Interview

Always interesting and inspirational, StyleBytes is another blog on my must-read list. Agathe, the author, writes about everything from runway trends to flea market finds – she also posts pictures of her daily outfits! We had a little e-mail chat about the blog, it’s readers, and the craziest item in her wardrobe.

When and how did StyleBytes get it’s start?

Style Bytes was put up by an ex boyfriend of mine, then under a different name at a different web address. I began to write about DIY projects and slowly got more and more readers which made it too fun to stop.

How has your blog (and it’s reader base) changed over the years?

While Style Bytes originally didn’t have anything to do with me or my life, I found it necassary to make changes as the number of blogs grew or else I could easily disappear among all of them. That’s when I started doing the outfit shots and so on. In the beginning most of my readers were American, but now I have readers from all over the world. I also think that my reader base change along with my blog. When my blog changes I will lose some readers and gain some new ones.

I’ve noticed that you’ve been featured in a lot of publications… how does it feel to see your name and pictures in print?

It’s feels kind of surreal to suddenly have big news papers and magazines interested in me and my blog, and most of the time it’s fun. Sometimes though, when people take bad photos or quote me wrong it can feel a little uncomfortable.

When did you first realize your passion for clothing? Have you always loved to dress up?

I remember very well when it started. I must have been about 12 and I bought clothes that perhaps were a bit different than the other kids were wearing, without giving it too much thought. This resulted in that some people started talking behind my back. People’s reaction to what I was wearing, often expressed in a negative way, fascinated me, especially since what I was wearing wasn’t all that odd. Since then I used clothes as a way to protest against this short minded way of looking at the world. Now I don’t really have an agenda with what I wear, but it’s still an important way for me to express who I am.

Do you have a favorite “fashion moment”? And by this I mean a moment where everything just works out perfectly – like finding exactly what you’ve been craving in just the right size and color… and for $1. Does that make sense?

Finding my Chanel bag for $7 is one of my favorite moments. It was the first thing I saw when I walked in to the shop and I got so stressed out and nervous that I didn’t manage to look at anything else. I paid for it while doing my best to hide my feelings so that they wouldn’t realize what a gem they practically were giving away. It’s one of those things that happens only once in a lifetime.

You have a pretty incredible wardrobe. I know it’s hard to play favorites, but are there any pieces hold a special place in your heart?

Hmm, this is a tough one. My wedding dress and wedding shoes are of course special pieces to me. Other than that things that I have inherited from grandmothers that have passed away or my mom also feel extra special. I like it when they tell a story, I guess that’s more important to me than how much they cost or what brand they are.

This question might be related to the previous one… What’s the most outlandish and crazy piece in your wardrobe?

It must either be my blue metallic prom dress from the 80’s or my pink ruffled mini dress from the 60’s. Neither of which I have worn cause they demand a fairly special occasion.

Your style is such an inspiration to me; I always look forward to your updates and I definitely keep them in mind when I’m pulling together outfits. Like recently, I’ve started experimenting with wearing a belt over an open cardigan… something that you’ve been doing lately. Who inspires you?

The runway inspires me a lot, different street fashion blogs, other fashion bloggers, people I see on the street. I couldn’t pinpoint one person cause I think I get inspiration from anyone and everyone.

And one last question. Do you have any words of wisdom for up-and-coming bloggers?

Don’t give up! Sometimes it feels like it isn’t worth it, but usually that feeling goes away. It takes time to build up a solid reader base, and even when you do there’s always someone that will have something negative about what you’re doing. But in the end it’s important to remember that there is always someone who feels what you do is important and interesting.

Thanks to Agathe for taking the time to talk with me… and read more to see some of her daily outfits!

Vintage Colorblock Boots

These vintage boots just arrived and they’ve caused quite the controversy in the ModCloth office: some of us love them while others… don’t. Personally, I think they’re pretty awefulsome, with the emphasis on awesome. Maybe 70% awesome with 30% awful mixed in just to keep it interesting.

In any case, I can’t wait to wear my pair!
