vintage shopping

Last weekend I went shopping at the Ohio River Antique Mall. It’s new to the area and has three floors of great finds at reasonable prices – needless to say I spent a large portion of my Saturday afternoon there. I bought a few things I couldn’t leave without and lusted after quite a few more.

Keep reading to find out all about my successful shopping day!

I love the look of high-waisted skirts, so this blue and green floral suit ($15) was a must. With the jacket on the look may be a little much, so I’m keeping them separate – I’ll pair the jacket with skinny jeans and a basic tee another day.

The blue purse ($15) was a great find my mom spotted – the color is absolutely magical; it’s a blue I’m used to seeing only on classic cars or electric guitars!

This pink rose print dress ($15) immediately reminded me of something Betty Draper would wear on Mad Men. I’ll probably pair it with a light blue cardigan when spring comes around. (I have quite a few dresses waiting for spring to come around…)

Another Mad-Men-influenced purchase was this grey and black dress ($15). The cut and fit are very Joan Holloway, and the detail of the flap going over the belt is inspired.

And I absolutely love this sunburst mirror – I’ve seen mirrors like this so many times in high-end decorating magazines, but never at this price ($20) – so I had to grab it. I can’t wait to find the perfect place for it in my apartment.

Now on to the items I wish I could have brought home:

This bright orange chair ($80) was super comfy and if I had a different living room and a larger wallet it might have made its way back to my apartment. I had the hardest time leaving this sheer-pink dotted dress ($20) behind, though I comfort myself knowing it will find a better-fitting home.

As a dog lover and a vintage lover, I’m very much in love with these vintage dog prints and playing cards! While the prints were a little out of my price range, they inspired me to frame a vintage dog needle point I bought for $8 – a much cheaper solution for a similar look.

While the practicality of a Planet of the Apes umbrella stand might be questioned, the awesomeness is not even up for debate. These clear heels weren’t my size, but they were sitting right next to a very friendly owl candle holder and I had to take a picture. And I couldn’t resist taking a picture of this vintage Monkees hanger!  A black and white picture with a touch of lucite? Vintage perfection!

I’ll be doing more shopping this weekend, so make sure to check out my post next Friday. And if you have any vintage shopping tips or great-find stories, please tell me all about them!
