I’m Natalie, and the new(er) designer at ModCloth. I began heading the imagery for the blog a month or so ago and plan to keep on bringin’ it! Other than designing for the blog, I design some of the homepage layouts and newsletters that end up in your email. I also help style the photo shoot designs and any other imagery that is out there on the web for your viewing pleasure! I love designing and I love vintage fashion, so this job has ended up being a perfect match for my interests.
My own personal fashion varies from day to day. Some days I am all blacks, greys and sleekness (you know, “fat” days if you will) and other days my clothes are guided by a certain color palette that I claim distinctly as my own: turquoise, teal, avocado, and lime. I’m not much into expensive brands because I am the first to admit I am a cheap-o. I like vintage patterns and thrifted items paired with some really nice basics that will be around for years. The only time that I will splurge is for buying items from independent artists, especially those which are handmade.
Beyond buying other artists’ wares, I like making my own. I started sewing, painting, drawing and knitting in high school with my best friend on the weekends and I haven’t stopped since. Movies and making ethnic foods are a frequent weekend activity, and I love to throw a good dinner party. If you’re in town, you should stop by. I make a mean Bavarian apple torte. Along with cooking, matchmaking and restoring antique furniture are close to my heart. A good coat of paint and new hardware can do wonders for something you thought belonged in the trash.
Oh and keep an eye out for my semi-regular weekly visual post on designs, products, artists, cultural influences, and social occurrences that we just can’t stop talking about…
Happy New Year!
