It’s no secret that everyone is a little strapped for cash these days. When the economy struggles, prices go up and designers cut back on their collections. Most people can barely afford to cover daily expenses, let alone shop for new clothing. But we do have some good news - (never fear) Vasil is here! When asked about fashion during times of hardship, our brilliant stylist said:
In the past, economic crisis has pushed people to be more open-minded and creative with what they wear. Coco Chanel helped revolutionize the traditional woman’s wardrobe by introducing ladies’ pants into her collection. Up until that point, most women simply borrowed pants from their husbands!
Vasil also gave us some great tips on how to transform a simple outfit and go from simple and plain to chic and unique by utilizing different accessories – without spending a lot of cash!

Scarves are a wonderful way to update and alter your look because there are so many different ways to wear them, such as:
1. The Belted Scarf, for a playful look
2. The Twist Tie, a unique way to decrease the bulk of your scarf, so you can wear it more comfortably
3. The Shoulder Wrap, for more sophisticated style

Jewelry adds a focal point to your outfit. Colorful jewelry easily adds pizazz to an otherwise mediocre look. Jewelry can also transition your outfit from day to night and to fit different occasions with ease!
Vasil predicts that belts will be a very popular accessory in 2009 and will be used to cinch cardigans, dresses, high-waisted bottoms and tops of all types! Belts help update the shape of an ensemble while accentuating feminine curves.
Footwear and legwear provide many opportunities for chic transitional wardrobes. Don’t worry about which shoes or leggings you’re “supposed” to wear with that skirt – add a pair of fun tights or bright pumps for an unexpected look. Leg warmers can add a stylish twist while keeping you warm and cozy!

What does Vasil says is the best accessory of all? Attitude! No matter who you are, if you stay focused on the positive, it will make your look shine. Remember to approach style with an open mind – there has never been a better time to experiment!

This is a great post! I love the creativity and how transformed this simple outfit looks with each and every look. I so appreciate that I can come to a site that gives such great style tips on what to do with items I might already own.
Thank you!
Haha, I LOVE the part about the attitude. It is the msot important part of an outfit, hands down!
Another tip: Even if you don’t have a lot of money, gather up loose change and head to Goodwill. My friends and I do that all the time! We find the cutest hats and belts there for a dollar or so, and they can be worn SO many different way that it’s ridiculous.
I absolutely love the skirt its awesome! i wish i could have this website, and put it in my pocket forever!
My guide to style: stop slouching!
Mix and match! I love it!
always check the sale racks FIRST when you enter a store. however, don’t buy something just because it’s cheap! think to yourself: does this actually match/go with the clothes i ALREADY HAVE? what’s the use of buying something you’re just going to look at longingly in your closet?
also–i would recommend shopping online. you can find deals, and even sign up for their email services–coupons may arrive in your inbox! and plus, shopping online gives you a chance to look at an item, and then look to see how it’ll fit in your closet. :) it saves gas money too!
my new trademark accessory are the feathers headpieces sold here at modcloth I love them hope you’ll had some different ones soon, they are just perfect to add a touch of glamour and burlesque to any outfit!
Now we’re talking!
