As devoted ModLife readers, you’ve probably noticed the name Elie Saab popping up quite a bit in Vasil’s Guide to Style posts. This week, Vasil will show you why that’s no coincidence; our lovable stylist explains why he thinks Elie Saab is one of the world’s most talented and successful designers.
Born in 1964, Saab was only 18 when he opened his first studio. He did not become internationally recognized, however, until the late 1990s. Ever since that time, the Lebanese designer has been synonymous with elegance and glamour. In fact, many fashion critics credit Saab for transforming the world of fashion. His ready-to-wear lines are known for being innovative while maintaining the same high quality as his Haute Couture. Celebrities who have worn Saab’s designs range from Queen Rania of Jordan to Beyonce. It’s difficult to imagine any international event attended by celebrities and the fashion elite without at least a handful of women showing off Elie Saab’s romantic designs.

Vasil spoke of how Saab inspired him as a fashion student: “I always wanted to become a Haute Couture or wedding wear designer because of him. His use of high quality fabrics, precision and attention to the female silhouette culminates in dresses that are arguably the best in the world. Most of Saab’s high-end designs focus on femininity and romanticism: incorporating lace, embroidery, silk threads and even pearls. “
