From ModCloth Writing Team Intern, Amy Cockcroft:

Maybe I’m just missing my native city, but I think this girl pictured in Manchester, England is absolutely dazzling! From her high-waisted fruit cocktail pants to her cute print tee and her belt, denim jacket, and shoes in between, this girl’s entire vintage ensemble is engaging and boisterous. Manchester’s own Northern Quarter, where you can get your Smiths vinyls from Piccadilly Records, drink in the Dry Bar, and shop in the dozens of vintage stores, is the center for an alternative and bohemian culture and exudes an atmosphere that her style reflects sublimely. Some girls’ vintage style is better than other girls’ vintage style, it’s true, but this girl is definitely at the top of the list! Keep your eye on our vintage, one of a kind items to create a similiarly captivating look, and don’t forget the staple Meadowlark Jacket!

  • We’re crazy about the AMC series “Mad Men,” and we know that many of you are, too! If you’ve ever fantasized about being a part of your favorite television show, well, all of your dreams are about to come true with MadMenYourself.com, where you can create an ultra stylish, early-60’s virtual version of yourself!
  • You know the 80’s movie “Ghost Busters,” starring Bill Murray and Slimer, right? Would you be surprised to find out that this was a re-make of a movie originally made thirty years prior? At least that’s true in an alternate reality. A fan of the “Ghost Busters” franchise and Youtube.com user by the name of whoiseyevan has taken clips from old black and white films and created a trailer for a 1954 version of “Ghost Busters” that never really existed…in this universe, anyhow.
  • Speaking of alternate pasts, I am a huge fan of Pittsburgh-based artist, Ben Matthews, who creates characters and critters in his artwork that “exist at the edges of sideshows, of archaic advertisement, and of storybooks none of which ever quite manifested themselves in our reality.” It appears that he hasn’t updated his site in a few years, but I still recommend checking out some of his parallel universe pieces.

From ModCloth Writing Team Intern, Amy Cockcroft:

I want to ride it where I like! It was the composition of this picture that initially inspired me today. It seems like this pretty lady is the only person in the whole wide world, mirroring the natural beauty of the scene with her ambrosial aesthetic. I won’t bother questioning how she rides in these heels (it’s probably just for the art), but regardless, they are absolutely adorable. Her pinafore style skirt is simply charming in its shape and flowery prints and teaming it with a plain tee simplifies the look while contributing to her captivating style. She’s sensible too, protecting herself from the sun in a suave straw hat. Try the Over the Rainbow Jumper,  the Best Friend Tank in Putty, the Summer Showers Wedges, and Fiji Fedora for a similar look. On your marks…get set…GO!

(The Double Heel-ixs)

This week was really tough – how am I ever supposed to pick just one favorite from all the incredible new items? After much internal debate, I finally settled on these beautiful, walkable heels because I simply can’t wait to wear them with all kinds of socks and tights this Fall.

What’s your favorite new item and why do you love it?

Hello ModLovers! This week, I’m taking a cue from Lisa to discuss the difference between a shift and a sheath-cut dress (thanks for the suggestion!). Both made popular in the late 1950’s, these classic cuts are vintage-inspired perfection. We’ll start with the sheath (pictured above).

Read on to learn more about these two ultra-retro styles!

From ModCloth Writing Team Intern, Amy Cockcroft:

I am wild about this girl’s style! Everything about her look is amazing, as you can see from this picture found on her blog, Karlascloset.  I love all her items on their own, but I think my favorite thing about this look is how easy on the wallet it really could be. Combining items you may already have in your wardrobe but never thought would look so priceless when put together makes for an individual, flamboyant, and entirely enthralling look. From her pixie hair to her multi-buckle wedges, and all the vintage style items in between, Karla updates the post-punk look flawlessly. Go routing in your own wardrobe and dare to create a hot style you never knew you had. It’s the staple statement items you need, like The Double Heel-ixs and The Rocket Jacket–everything else is already in your wardrobe!
