A Vintage Swimsuit: Sea-led the Deal! 6

Who: Jen

What: Vintage swimsuit; Circa 1960s

Where: Footloose in Granville, Ohio — the tag inside says “Honolulu, Hawaii” though!

How Much: $15.00

When I use It: When I don’t feel like wearing the conventional two- piece. This summer, I’ve worn it not just for swimming, but around the house when I want a summer-y, laid-back look.

Shopping Tips: Make friends with the owners! Often, small vintage shops are operated by only a handful of people. When I bought this suit, I was an established Footloose customer. Barbara, the owner, knows I am a poor college student (now poor college graduate) and often knocks a few dollars off my purchase or throws in a free piece of jewelry. Also, don’t be afraid to bargain when a piece has a small flaw or imperfection. This suit was originally $18 but when I pointed out the light stains (visible only on the inside), I saved $3 — just enough left to support my iced coffee addiction!

No, we haven’t made a typo; we’re not talking about a bear who steals picnic baskets. Although Yogi Berra rose to fame as a baseball player for the Yankees, he also had a way with words that few can top. You may have heard some of his sayings, such as  “It ain’t over till it’s over,” and “It’s like deja-vu all over again,” but there are plenty more bits of his off-kilter wisdom waiting to enlighten you. These profound witticisms, also known as “Yogiisms,” are so well-put in and of themselves, that we can’t even comment on them. So, for this week’s Top Ten Yogi Berra Quotes, we’ll let some one else do the talking. What are some of your favorite quotes or adages?

10. “Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.

9. “Half the lies they tell about me aren’t true.

8. “Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”

7. “The only color I don’t have is navy brown.

6. “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

5. “Never answer an anonymous letter.

4. “You can observe a lot just by watching.

3. “The future ain’t what it used to be.

2. “We made too many wrong mistakes.

1. “I never said most of the things I said.

Sweater, Sweethearts, Shoes, and Songs 4

Written by ModCloth Writing Intern Amy Cockcroft:

  • While on search for items that are perfect for fall with a twist, I found these sweaters designed and hand-knitted by Hannah Taylor, a fashion graduate based in London. Check out her blog, hanzipan.blogspot.com. How cool, quirky, and totally unique are her designs!?
  • When you were a kid, did you have a collection that you were ridiculously proud of, and endless knowledge of it that you could recite at the drop of a hat? For me, it was Beanie Babies. For many others, it was Barbies. Check out the chosen love of this little boy; you’ll be amazed by his cuteness. What was your obsession?
  • Speaking of collections, oh how we all love shoes! Check out the Jeffrey Campbell blog from when our buying team went for a visit! Don’t you just want them all?
  • And finally, proof that we can all make that dream of becoming a pop star come true, check out The Axis of Awesome–evidence that all you need to make it in the industry are four simple chords. Who knew?!

Ah, the working week is over, which in turn means my time interning with the fashion writing team here at ModCloth is over too.  It’s been a great summer, and I hope someday I’ll be back! Wish me luck for my journey back to England and my final year at university, and thanks for having me!

I adore this nautical look – wide-leg pants, a striped sailor-inspired top and gold ballet slippers. The colors and prints are subtle and understated, but the pants make a huge statement. It’s all about proportions. Love it!

Wanna get the look? Try these: the Dream Sequence Cardi in Wayne, Semiconductor Pants, the Cocoa Beach Wedges and the Brick Lane Bag in Grey.

Fashion meets Function: 7 Ways to Wear The Circle Scarf 7

[Clockwise from the top left : The Loop shown using the The Mascara Scarf, The Hooded Cape  shown using the The Los Ramblas Scarf , The Double Wrap and the Shawl]

ModCloth recently introduced the Mascara and The Las Ramblas circle scarves to our accessories collection and they have been a big hit in the ModCloth office and with ModCloth fans alike!  I received my first Las Ramblas Scarf as a gift from the vendor on a recent buying trip, and it was love at first drape!  Perfect for any fashion forward gal, and in my opinion essential for any traveler, my circle scarf has come to be my travel security blanket.  Being an avid fan of the the circle scarf, I thought I’d share with you my top 7 ways to wear this versatile piece!

1. The Loop. This one is pretty self explanatory.

2. The Hooded Cape. Perfect protection from an unexpected rain storm or paparazzi! This look is also great for bad hair days or “bed head” after those long overnight flights.

3.  The Double Wrap. This look gives your circle scarf more of a traditional scarf-feel and is great for cold weather and layered under coats.

4.  The Shawl.  Great for unexpected chilly weather or covering your spaghetti straps when meeting your boyfriends uber-conservative grandmother!

Read on for three more great ways to wear ModCloth’s circle scarves!
