Fall in love with one of the hottest trends of the season… If you can talk the talk and walk the walk, then you can certainly wear the statement necklace! While time becomes a thing of the past, don’t fall behind in your wardrobe. Express your freedom of fashion by transforming your outfit with a statement necklace that speaks to you!

A little hometown love – designer and (Pittsburgh native!) Justin Giunta’s line of Subversive Jewelry shows that statement necklaces have been and are always in fashion – having designed them for years, he is known for his statement necklaces and takes fresh inspiration with each new season. His designer prices do run a pretty penny though, anywhere from $400 upwards of $3000 per piece! Yikes!

While each decade is known for signature “styles,” from the 60′s mini dress to the 80′s power suit, could the 2010′s be defined by the statement necklace? While we work our way through the current economic lull, take advantage of your right brain by transforming what’s already in your closet: a tee and jeans can go from running errands during the day to running the nightclub dance floor at night with the simple addition of a statement necklace!

Is there a right and wrong statement necklace to wear with your neckline? Read on, we’ve got a few style tips to decorate your decolletage – and we’d also love for you to share your own!

If you are curious as to what necklace length to wear in comparison to your neckline, check out Beadlam which has a great reference page with photos, in addition to the definitions of different neckline styles and collars.

As you can see from the sketches above, we’ve taken a variety of necklines–from strapless, scoop, and boat neck to sweetheart, crew, and a deep V neckline–to show you how they can be worn with a variety of our own statement necklaces! Certain style advisors might point you in one direction, but personally I don’t think there is a right and wrong when you’re choosing a statement necklace to go with your neckline. The only wrong I can think of is being caught bare neck-ed, without one at all!

What is your take on this trend? Have you fallen in love with a certain necklace for your neckline? Is this a style you see sticking around years from now?

Honestly, I’m a minimalist when it comes to jewelry. I wear my engagement ring and pretty much nothing else.
However, I recently decided I’d ease myself into wearing necklaces and tried the “Close to Your Heart Locket”, which I adored (until the clasp broke). Anyway, it wasn’t huge or gaudy, so I really liked it.
There is just no way I could do a “statement necklace”. They’re enormous and usually garish. I prefer subtle and sophisticated.

I adore statement necklaces! I love them opera length with beautiful pendants. Everybody comments on them, and they add pop and style to otherwise boring outfits. Accessories really make an outfit and statement necklaces truly get people talking.

One tip that I really like is no conflicting necklines. Avoid necklaces that hang atop or hover around the neckline of what you’re wearing, it just looks cluttered. Try to find a style that works either above or below, making it more pleasing to the eye and resulting in a more pulled together look!

I am dying for some long, thick drapey chains – very rock-star.

I love how FUN statement necklaces are… I also can’t seem to shake from my mind how much I like the “strands upon strands of pearls” look, too.

I’m with Sydney. I’ve only just started to wear any jewelry at all (I don’t even have pierced ears… I got them pierced when I was 12, as soon as I was allowed to, but then I really wasn’t into it and let them heal back up), and I’m keeping it to my ModCloth pocket watch necklace and sometimes a beaded double strand. I’m not anywhere near ready for my jewelry to make a statement!
