Welcome to the latest ModLife category, in which we share fond memories of days gone by and the Stuff We Miss. This week we’re taking a look at the comedy that I used to love watching every single day after high school — The Kids in the Hall.
Cross-dressing secretaries? Keep reading! The Kids in the Hall is a Canadian sketch comedy troupe that formed in 1984 and had a 5-season long show that ran in the late 80s to early 90s. The incredible team of Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson made us laugh until it hurt with their unique combination of cross-dressing, social commentary, and (sometimes) the downright bizarre. Whenever I see it, I can’t help but think of all the afternoons I spent laughing with friends after school and wish that they were still making sketches!
If you haven’t discovered this show yet (or if you have and just want to reminisce with me), check out some of my all-time favorites sketches below. You can also buy all five seasons on DVD!

18 loves
YES! Even though when their show ended I was only 4 years old, just like…2? years ago I came across re-runs of KITH. Instant love! I bought the first season dvd and am hoping to get the others soon. They were fantastic and I really wish the show was still going!
I miss that show too.
Oddly, Dave Foley (in the green dress), in this skit, reminds me of Johnny Depp’s characterization of Willy Wonka!
They are back on TV right now with a special mini-series type of thing, I think it’s called Death Comes to Town. Might be over now, not sure. You can read about it here though:http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/theyre-called-the-kids-for-a-reason/article1423760/
YAY for Canadian TV!! :) (I’m Cdn in case you didn’t know lol)
My brother and I still crush eachothers heads when we are far enough away.
Fine ham abounds!!
one of my favorite shows of all time!!
oh i really do miss this show. it’s how little denise learned the meaning of homoerotic. and i will always be grateful! still one of the best theme songs too.
I miss this show so much!
You’re right, Kim — their TV special is Death Comes to Town and it was filmed this summer in my hometown ( a couple of my friends were extras and one was a body double); pretty cool beans, imho.
I remember Kids in the Hall! They used to play reruns of it on Comedy Central, along with late 80′s/early 90′s SNL. Those were the days….
I remember ditching school to watch rerun episodes of Kids in the Hall, SNL (Operah Man!) and finish the day off with the Simpsons… *sigh* The education we could have gotten if the internet was faster back then…
One of the best comedy sketch shows ever! I wish real crossdressed acted like they did.
