Stuff We Miss: Gotta Love Me!

Not a day goes by that I don’t miss the awesomeness that was ABC’s TGIF.  From the genius that was Urkel to the family love on Step by Step, how was I to choose something for Stuff We Miss, when I am missing so much great stuff all the time? In the end, Dinosaurs, the  sitcom about a regular family just trying to make it in the year 60,000,003 B.C., won out.

Brainchild of Jim Henson, Dinosaurs appealed to adults and children alike for its relatable characters, sharp dialogue, and of course, the adorable and frying pan-wielding Baby Sinclair. Using some of the most masterful puppetry television has ever seen, Earl, Fran, Robbie, Charlene, and Baby won our hearts by living average dinosaur lives.

During their four season run, the Sinclairs dealt with everything from workplace issues branching from Earl’s job as a tree pusher for Wesayso Corporation, to the problems that stem from not developing as fast as the other girls in class (we mean growing one’s tail, of course!), to larger issues like recession and global warming.

Despite being hidden beneath a flurry of animatronics and having their characters cut down by extinction, several of the show’s stars went on to have flourishing careers, including Kevin Clash (better known as Elmo) and Jessica Walter (known for her role as world’s greatest TV mom, Lucille Bluth on Arrested Development).

Feel like catching up with the Sinclairs? Check them out on DVD!

I LOVED Dinosaurs!!! I still sing Baby’s song on occasion. Although, I have to admit that I think I missed some of the serious life issue references, haha…

I vividly remeber the episode when the grandma was dying (Cant remember the arc of the story) the scary swap and its creatures stayed with me for years

Oh Dinosaurs, how I miss you!!! I was beginning to wonder if anyone else in the world actually watched that show. We would actually set up our VHS camcorder and tape the TV so we could watch them over and over! My favorite is the one when baby grows a horn. Or maybe the one where grandma tries to throw herself of a cliff!

Oh my god!!! When I was little I would wake up at 5:00 in the morning to watch it!

Yes!!! I totally remember watching that show! I recently have been finding myself looking up other Jim Henson greats on YouTube… Frog Prince, Hey Cinderella and The Christmas Toy are all there!

Sadly this TV gem only lasted one season, if that. Probably because it was so pricey to make, with all the crazy puppetry action! Ah, memories.

Now I remember where my younger sister got that from! She’d always say “I’m the baby, gotta love me!” in that same high-pitched voice.
