If you’ve been watching the figure skaters of the Vancouver Olympics, you’ve probably been both shocked and awed by their often outlandish costumes. I love the lilac and royal combination Russian-American skater Ksenia Makarova chose for her short program performance on Tuesday night. Instead of overwhelming the crowd with ruffles and sparkles, her sleek and feminine amethyst ensemble made her pop against the ice, while its glittering adornments added just the right amount of spark!

Love the look, but afraid a that short skirt would get you kicked out of work? Try our Purple Hyperbole Dress or The Kennebunkport Dress in Starboard!

About Sarah

Who would have thought the little girl in the oversized Goofy t-shirt would grow up to become a fashion writer? Definitely not young Sarah; she was too busy daydreaming about becoming a ninja. A native New Englander, Sarah's goal is to one day own a lake or beach house -- she changes her mind daily. She has a mean curveball and once tried out for the Olympics. She loves pretty purses, going to baseball games, and will go to extraordinary lengths for chocolate. She has an MFA in Creative Writing and a Bachelor's Degree in Awesomeness.

In my opinion, the best figure skating outfit is Kim Yu-Na’s short program Bond Girl outfit – it’s the most perfect usage of sparkle I’ve seen on a figure skating outfit in a long time.

My whole dorm wanted Kim Yu-Na’s long program outfit. So pretty! I was a big fan of everything Tessa Virtue wore, too.
