Top 10 Senior Portraits from the 1965 Hampton High School Yearbook

I’m not sure why, but when I saw this yearbook at a local thrift shop, it spoke to me. It said, “Hannah, buy me! Take me home. Read me! Oh, and then, if you don’t mind terribly, write a Top 10 about me. I think people would really enjoy that.” The yearbook had a point. So, yearbook, your wish is my command — I’ll leave my words here, and let you do the talking!

About Hannah

"Q: Where do cantaloupes go for the summer? A: John Cougar Mellon Camp!" From that joke you can surmise a few things about Hannah -- she loves a good pun, she delights in irreverence, and red peppers are her vegetable of choice. How does one figure out Hannah loves red peppers from that joke? Hmm, that's top secret. Hannah also adores outdoor activities, arts & crafts, reading, and being abroad.

  7. Erin March 23, 2010 at 2:46 pm #

Ok I stumbled upon this site through craftgawker… and have to ask…

is that the talbots as in… the Hampton Talbot’s of Hampton, PA (near pittsburgh)? Because I have a feeling I know some of those faces.

  8. Erin March 23, 2010 at 2:49 pm #

Oh my gosh I just saw the title, this is entirely TOO bizarre!!!! I’ve seen this yearbook before – all of my dad’s side of my family went to this high school! And to think that I just came across this website through an ad on craftgawker… so strange.

  9. Emily (ModCloth) March 23, 2010 at 3:00 pm #

  18. eliztesch March 23, 2010 at 9:12 pm #

as a former yearbook nerd… i LOVE yearbooks and have also picked up a few stragglers from years past for my collection. this one is truly a gem!

love the cover! very interested to see the homecoming queen, her court, & if there are any superlatives!

  19. Jill March 23, 2010 at 9:17 pm #

at the museum i work at, we have some year books from the 1920s, and the captions (although in these, they’re more like little stories) underneath the graduates’ names are absolutely hilarious (especially since some sayings from the 1920s mean something completely different now!). and, they have stats for each person too! it’s a good pick me up for when you’re having a bad day!

  20. moony March 23, 2010 at 9:40 pm #

oh wow, i would love to see more of this yearbook. (if only my old ones were so witty!)

  21. Alexandra March 23, 2010 at 10:25 pm #

Bahahaha! Some of these are seriously passive aggressive. I think it might have been a case of revenge of the yearbook editor nerds.
“This Irish ham delights in taking advantage of gullible people and maintaining an innocent expression throughout.”

  22. Cate March 24, 2010 at 1:42 am #

I wish that our yearbook did funny captions like that for each student, but sadly our class is too big for them to get to know everyone.

I’m also rather glad those hairstyles have been phased out! :)

  23. chelsea March 24, 2010 at 7:42 am #

haha, i love all the captions! i can’t believe they actually put all those…

the hairs were great to look at too :]

  24. amy March 24, 2010 at 9:40 am #

So I relate. haha. This list is awesome, I love year books.

  26. Enya March 24, 2010 at 2:53 pm #

  37. Ashley March 30, 2010 at 10:56 am #

I wish my school would have done stuff like this. We were small enough (Only 4 seniors!) but my principal wasn’t that creative.

I love looking at old photographs. It’s like knowing people from another time, I fell kinda like a time traveler or something.

I have a book of Shakespearean songs, with an inscription from someone to a friend of theirs inviting them for Christmas net year. It was dated Christmas 1889! My own lil’ chunk of history!

  38. katie May 7, 2010 at 12:13 am #

these are hilarious! i wish i was around back then just to have a caption like that of me!
