“Neighborhood” Love Songs

In our most recent ModMobile poll, we asked subscribers to choose which genre of music they wanted us to feature next on our blog. Well, the results are in, and the overwhelming majority of votes went to “indie!” So today, as promised, I bring you Sugar & Gold, a five person, San Francisco-based indie band I first learned about from my co-worker, Natalie. Listening to “Neighborhood” never fails to make me smile. Not only do the lyrics shake up traditional notions about love songs, but its tune is so happy and upbeat that I can’t resist tapping my toes and singing along. It pairs perfectly with the spring sunshine!

Would you write a love song to your neighborhood? Town? City? What would you say?

I was little wary hearing the first few beats, because I’m usually not a fan of funky retro-type beats, but this song has me hooked! I’ll definitely be listening to this again :)

Coming from the suburbs of a big city, I can’t really say that I love my city because really the entire area I live in is several cities that expanded into each other. However, I do love the busy life of DC outskirts and would definitely write a love song to my beloved Washington DC!

I think I would write one to Seattle just so “Hello, Seattle” could be forgotten…

Plus I love Seattle, so that’s a pretty good reason too. (:

I saw this band perform before Of Montreal in my neighboorhood of Cincinnati, and they completely stole the show! Glad to see they are getting some mod-love!
