Running on Unisex-y Time

Our writing team intern Christen was recently invited to an out-of-town writers’ conference for a couple of days. The organizers of the event loved an article she had written for her college magazine, The Original, and asked her to give a presentation on its content. Being the stickler for punctuality that I am, I volunteered to taxi Christen to the train station to ensure that she caught her coach. The afternoon before she left, I suggested that we synchronize our What Time Is It Deer Watch Necklaces so that she’d be ready the moment I showed up at her place.

To correspond with the old-timey essence of the pocket watch-style necklace and Christen’s mode of transportation, I engineered an ensemble that harkened back to the good old days of locomotives.  I donned a seersucker button up  and a grey, pinstriped vest, then capped off my look with a pair of western-style shoes and the Rat-a-Tat Hat!

When I got to Christen’s apartment to pick her up, it turned out that we both not only were wearing our matching necklaces, but that we both had a similar plan in mind to sport a vest, too! Hers was the Vest to a T, which she draped over the airy Easy Breezy Top and wore with the Etymologist Pants.  She decked her feet out in the elegant yet comfortable Walk this Ray Sandal and packed up her change of clothes in the Workin’ for the Weekend-er Bag.  She looked simultaneously stylish and sensible for extended travel.

We got Christen to the station with ample time to spare, and her trip and presentation at the convention went off without a hitch!

How would you style a pocket watch necklace,  and where would you wear it?

About Richard

Richard finds style inspiration in an assortment of historical figures, musicians, and movie characters, including Doc Holliday, Tracy Pew, Han Solo, and El Topo. When not tapping at the computer keyboard for ModCloth, Richard spends his time playing music and dreaming of composing the perfect soundtrack to an epic gothic western film set on a distant, dusty planet, where the cowboys ride rocket-powered motorcycles instead of horses.
