On July 20th, Devendra Banhart and Andy Cabics record label, Gnomonsong, plans to release the debut full-length album of Baltimore-based band, Lower Dens. The quartet plays dreamlike, soothing, guitar-driven tracks which pulse against indie folk singer/songwriter Jana Hunter’s contralto vocals and meditative lyrics.

Summer music releases always put me in a good mood! There’s nothing quite like jamming your latest music obsession with the windows down and a hazy sunset in the distance. What upcoming albums are you looking forward to hearing?

Style Score! 5

ModCloth was at BUST Magazine’s Spring Fling Craftacular this past Sunday and just happened to be booth neighbors with Jenny and Leslie, organizers for Score! Pop-Up Swaps.

They were so stylish we just had to take a photo! Jenny, on the left, is wearing a ring from her grandmother and orthopedic shoes from a Hasidic shoe store. Leslie is wearing a vintage dress and pearl earrings!

Score! Pop-Up Swaps are FREE, and often themed, swap meets where attendees can bring everything from clothes to music and books. Guest curators (big shots like Etsy and Market Publique) then sort the items to different departments and attendees can shop, taking as much as they can carry. There’s also a DJ, drinks, and live screenprinting, but the best part is that all proceeds go to charity. This weekend, all the proceeds from their event will go to Global Inheritance, a non-profit that encourages youth activism through creative forums, like music and technology. Those of you ModReaders lucky enough to be in New York this weekend can attend the Pop-Up Swap in Brooklyn! Here’s the info:

Where: BKLYN Yard, 400 Carroll St, between Bond and Nevins

Outfit of the Week: Wedding Shower Chic! 0

Beware reader — wedding fever has struck ModCloth! Last fall, five of our lovely ladies got engaged. Now with summer upon us, wedding plans are a major topic of conversation around the water cooler — and we couldn’t help but drag one of our blushing brides onto the blog to share her bliss!

Michelle, ModCloth’s Head of Advertising, was proposed to over the holidays by her boyfriend Jay, a former co-worker, turned friend, turned fiancé. The pair’s planning an intimate ceremony in Pittsburgh in September, after which the foodie couple will be feasting with friends and family at their friend’s new restaurant, Salt. Michelle was gracious enough to take some time off from favor and flower planning to pose in this wedding shower-inspired ensemble!

What do you think, ModLovers? Is Michelle’s outfit an “I do”?

Move Over Movember, It’s Maystache! 0

If you were reading our blog back in November, then you’re probably aware that said month is a time to celebrate men’s tufted upper lips (and for a good cause, too). But if you’ve been ‘stubbling’ around ModCloth recently, you may have noticed — like I have — a growing number of mustache-themed products, such as the Chic Upper Lip Tote.  With this form of facial hair gaining such popularity among women as well as men, it should be no shock at all that I have heavily featured it in this week’s Unisex-y!

As you can see, Product Launch Coordinator Lauren and I not only had a lot of fun playing around with the Plustache Toy, but we also pieced together a menswear-inspired ensemble for her to wear. We used the Chic Upper Lip Tote as the final accessory to a combination of the Rat-a-Tat-Hat, Sheerlock Holmes Top, Haute Handlebar Necklace, Spry as a Firefly Shorts, and Song of the Flame Belt. We then finished Lauren’s look with the Bow’n Places Heel, which nicely pulls together the hues of the whole outfit.

Since designers have been featuring a lot of plaid this season — and because, in my opinion, cowboys never go out of style — I decided to wear one of my favorite western shirts, which I then matched with blue jeans and grey loafers. My Chic Upper Lip Tote then groomed the whole look to perfection!

How about you? Are you charmed by the mustache trend, or does it make you bristle?

Are you readily embracing the impending summer? We are! As Fleet Week NYC sets sail, ModCloth took the opportunity to not only style a seafaring look, but also put together a mix of bands with nautical names. From Beach House to Lighthouse, White Whale to The Octopus Project, it was fun to fish out the most Mod-worthy songs for a nautical inspired soundtrack that I hope you enjoy! First, let’s check out Side A, in which ModStylist Nicole brings you a lovely look for your summer by the sea.

Bud Romance Tank

I’ve always admired Carrie Bradshaw’s unapologetically exuberant style, and I think this playful top would fit right into her closet. I’m planning to wear it this week with a high waisted skirt and heels to go see the latest Sex and the City movie. The storyline and premise might be questionable, but the style, I’m sure, will be fantastic.

What’s your favorite new item this week? How will you wear it?
