Meet Andy, ModCloth’s Senior Facilities and Maintenance Specialist and ModLife Photographer!
Hometown: Altoona, PA
As a kid, I wanted to grow up to be: An art teacher
Siblings: “I come from a big family — I have five siblings!”
Pets: Penelope, a two-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi
I caught up with Andy on a quintessentially Pittsburgh spring day — a day that had started with a tumultuous, constant rain before softening into a muggy, amber-washed late afternoon. As we approached the ModOffice’s outdoor picnic tables to chat, I noticed the plastic benches were dappled with precipitation from the morning’s showers. I asked Andy if he would mind sitting on a damp seat. He scoffed. “Of course not!”
Andy’s go-with-the-flow attitude is far from surprising, if you consider the whirlwind years following his high school graduation. While studying Art Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Andy’s then-band, Like A Movie, signed with Universal Records. The pop rock ensemble, which consisted of Andy on bass guitar and five other hometown friends, went on to tour the U.S., playing everywhere from LA’s Knitting Factory to sold-out crowds in New York City. The group also released an EP, say it again, opened for New Found Glory, and acquired a cult following of fans.
When asked if touring and music was a part of his future plans, Andy conceded to really loving his current life setup. “Being on tour for months on end is a lot of fun, but it’s also nice to have a steady paycheck,” he said.
When he’s not traveling back and forth between the ModOffice and ModCloth’s Distribution Center, taking photos for the blog or addressing facility issues, Andy’s a full-time photography student at Point Park University. To see more of Andy’s work, check out his daily photo project, Cloud Country.
