After interviewing the super sister-sister team at Trollied Dolly, I now get an involuntary smile when I see their adorable dresses on the site. The charismatic duo were a joy to talk to, and you may guess that from their enthusiastically designed frocks.
Producing clothes may have come naturally to Trollied Dolly’s Louise and Nicole. Their mother has always been a “keen dressmaker” who made unique clothes for her daughters from unusual fabrics or up-cycled vintage pieces. The Dollies, as they refer to themselves as, also spent a lot of time as teens in London’s Brick Lane area, which they say is full of creative, edgy, and vintage styles.
Though their wardrobe was atypical, they grew up to find themselves in the familiar nine to five grind of London. Unfulfilled by this life, they each decided to “go off globetrotting to refresh [their] tired corporate minds, bodies, and souls.” With their strong desire to find a more enjoyable way to live, the dollies took their obsession with “beautiful fabrics and fantastic fiestas,” combined it with Louise’s newly earned degree in textiles, and created the fun and fabulous label, Trollied Dolly.
The Dollies joined forces with a family run sewing business in Thailand who now produce the fine frocks. Not only do the Dollies appreciate the familial nature of this sewing business, but they get the benefit of delicious, homemade Thai food as well. Well, I’m jealous.
The sisters also have a great time working together. Each feels a powerful sense of sisterhood in their company. “With my sister by my side,” Louise says, “I feel like I can achieve anything!” No sibling rivalry here, just a wonderful work environment!
Starting your own business is no simple venture. Trollied Dolly took a big, brave step in dumping their office jobs to find true love and freedom in their own business. “I think the change of scenery, pace, and lifestyle helped us to have the courage to take a risk and follow our hearts,” they say.
ModCloth is happy that Trollied Dolly took the plunge. Why not get “dollied” up with one of their dresses?
