It’s yet again one of our favorite times of the month! And by that, we mean it’s time to introduce you to another one of our fantastic virtual buyers!
Midwesterner Alyssa has been out there voting, commenting, and delighting in our Be the Buyer program, designed — in case you don’t know — to let you pick out which things we should buy. Let’s see what Alyssa’s got to say!
Where are you from?
Consider me a girl from two cities, as I am currently flopping from house to house in both Pontiac and Normal, Illinois.
What do you do? Are you student? Rocket Scientist? Cashier? Chef?
Unfortunately, I am one of thousands of the unemployed crossing their fingers that opportunity is going to come dancing through their door. Until that day comes, I will be working on my certifications to be a medical office assistant and filling out applications like a speed machine.
How do you fill up your free time? Have any hobbies?
Writing and gaming. I’m madly in love with screenwriting and playwriting. My second-to-last year of college, I took a course that required us to write a one-act play. Mine was received very well, and I became one of the first non-theater majors at my university to be asked to do a screenwriting independent study. Since then, my play was selected to enter the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and has been turned into a feature-length screenplay. I have also been getting my feet wet in the world of fashion blogging; I’ve been trying to hone in on what I’d like my site to become. Then, of course, there’s gaming. I play everything from Grand Theft Auto to World of Warcraft. I proudly rock my nerd badge!
How would you describe your style?
Eclectic. This last year, I’ve been experimenting with all sorts of styles to see what feels like a second skin to me. But, as they say, variety is the spice of life — and I like a little of everything to keep things interesting!
Which Be the Buyer item did you just buy? Any comments on styling it and when you use it?
The Two Tickets to Paradise dress had me drooling over it since the day I spotted in on BTB, and I had to have it. I’m still clinging to summer, so I paired this piece with wedge sandals, a vintage elephant necklace, and a vintage hat. If things turn chilly, it pairs nicely with a dark military jacket, maroon leggings, and a cute pair of heels!
How did you feel when you found out this item was picked for production?
Super excited that it was an item I actually picked, but at the same time sad because I didn’t have the money to afford the dress. Fortunately for me, the boyfriend recognized how much I adored it and offered to foot the bill.
Which current Be the Buyer items are your favorites?
I really loved the concept behind Sample 406, though I think it’d be much cuter if the lace followed through in the back. I also see Sample 400 and 346 as perfect pieces for fall when paired with cute socks or colored tights.
What do you love most about Be the Buyer?
The best part about Be the Buyer is that it puts the responsibility of choosing what items and trends to sell right where it belongs — with the customers. Fashion is being taken in a whole new direction with fashion bloggers and street style becoming more and more popular. We have a much firmer control of the fashion scene and are influencing designers almost as much as they influence us. It’s a pretty surreal feeling to pick something out, then a month later be able to order the item you and thousands of others felt made the cut. So thanks!
Any other fun facts you’d like to add?
Two things: 1) If you have a severe lack of anything else to do, feel free to pop by my blog at Beauty Simplistic. I always enjoy having visitors. 2) If you are hiring… let me know! : )
Thanks, Alyssa for this awesome interview!
