That 70′s style might be the latest trend forecast according the the Spring 2011 runways, but we’ve been noticing this look cropping up on tons of street style blogs already, with plenty of flowing maxi lengths in jewel tones and bell-bottom trousers worn with platform heels.  We love the way these ladies updated the classic look by keeping the patterns to a minimum and focusing on rich colors and interesting proportions.

Will you be trying this retro-inspired trend, or would you prefer to leave this look to the history books?

Oooh! Love them all. Besides the girl in the head wrap, I think they all managed to upgrade and update the 70s style.

Great looks Erin. I’m obsessed with high waist, wide leg pants.

I like the first two, but many of the others look outdated and unflattering as opposed to stylishly retro. It is my least favorite fashion decade, and I look awful in high waisted pants.

This makes me hopeful for the return of bootcut/flared jeans and trousers to stores everywhere! The currently ubiquitous presence of super-skinny pants has been quite an awkward challenge for people, like me, whose shorter legs are not flattered by that tapered fit. ; )

I adore this trend! Hope it stays for a lot longer than just spring. Those last two photos are to die for!

I’m so relieved that society is over the whole “super low rise” trend now. I thought it was SO ridiculous. But I also think it’s incredibly interesting how you can basically predict fashion trends via “the pendulum” (something I learned in costume history class): when you have one style extreme, the other is soon to follow. ie: the billowy pigeon-chested looks at the turn of the century followed closely by the scantily clad slinky wear of the roaring twenties; or the super-low rise trend in modern times, followed by a resurgence of high waisted looks. Yesss.
