Blogger of the Moment: Natalie Off Duty

Natalie, of the blog Natalie Off Duty, is a model by day, blogger by night. But modeling and blogging aren’t her only activities—she’s also a musician and a dancer. Her creativity carries over to her effortless outfits—cozy sweaters, fitted denim, long skirts, bohemian hats. But this blogger babe also has a nerdy side, and says that growing up, she never once thought about modeling. You’ll want to hear about it straight from Natalie, though, so be sure to check out her interview! Plus, take a moment to admire her namesake dress and favorite ModCloth picks.

Who are your style icons? What else inspires your sense of style?
I love the style of girls like Dree Hemingway, Erin Wasson, and Lou Doillon. These girls always manage to look so chic without even trying. Their confidence makes them style icons. Magazine editorials, street style images, and even just people I see on the street inspire me to wear different looks every day.

What blogs do you follow?
I follow many blogs that I check up on whenever I have the chance. For street style, I love checking Stockholm Street Style. The images and videos are so inspiring and beautiful. For the latest editorial images I read Studded Hearts. Some of my favorite fashion blogs that I check up on daily are Park & Cube, Cocorosa, Phosphene, The Blonde Salad, and of course, my sister’s blog, Nana in Wonderland. These girls have such great style and it’s so much fun to check up on their latest looks and see how real girls play around with pieces in their wardrobe.

You’re a model, but you’re also a musician. What type of music do you play and listen to?
I sing and play the piano and guitar. Jewel has always had a musical influence on me growing up. I love her unique voice and the way she tells stories. She inspired me to really pick up the guitar one summer. I write whenever I get the chance. Having experience to draw from makes it easier. I listen to all types of music. I love folk, rock, and hip-hop. Artists on my iTunes range from Bob Dylan to Eryka Badu to Led Zeppelin. I really like everything.

What are your hobbies?
One of my favorite things to do is dance. I’ve been dancing my whole life. I started taking lessons at a young age and then joined the school dance team. It’s something I will always enjoy doing. I also love to sing and and play piano or guitar during my free time. Biking is another hobby of mine. I love riding my bike long distances along the beach or around my neighborhood.

Do you have a favorite food?
I am a huge fan of Indian food. Curry chicken with garlic naan and rice is one of my favorite dishes!

If you could live in the pages of a book or on the set of a movie, which book or movie would it be? Why?

I would want to live on the set of Gilmore Girls, which is actually a TV show. Stars Hollow looks so cute and cozy. The streets and buildings have so much charm. The weather there always seems perfect, too. It always looks slightly chilly, which I love. The characters are also such warm people that I’d love to get to meet. I’ve actually been to the set of the show, which is pretty close to my house, but even that hasn’t changed my mind about the town. I still love it.

What would the perfect romantic date be for you?
It would definitely have to be very laid-back. Probably just dinner at a really good restaurant then go out and do something silly and fun like karaoke or dancing. Anything that makes me laugh!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I am actually quite nerdy and dorky. Growing up, I was a wildly weird and outspoken child with never-ending energy. I never really thought about ever modeling. I didn’t even start getting tall until sophomore year of high school. I was a very late bloomer. It’s funny how things work out.

Do you have any secret dreams for the future?

In whatever I am doing, or wherever I am in the world, all I hope for is that I am happy. I definitely hope my hard work pays off and that I end up where I want to be. Also, I hope to keep my loved ones close. I don’t know what I’d do without them.
