A Day in Williamsburg with Idée Géniale

If you’re ever looking for a relaxing weekend in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg, blogger Mel of Idée Géniale has the perfect itinerary for you. During our last trip to New York, we asked this stylish Canadian-turned-New Yorker to show us her favorite local haunts!

1. Brooklyn Bowl: This venue is located among the warehouses of Williamsburg away from the beaten track of Bedford Ave. The unassuming building opens up to an impressive 16-lane bowling alley and concert venue. The crowd is a mix of people, some go there for the music and some for the bowling.

2. Union Pool: This bar gets its name from being an old pool supply store. A few good reasons to come to this place: 1) It’s located on the North Side of Williamsburg, which usually attracts an older crowd, 2) There’s a photobooth, and 3) There’s a photobooth! This place has a ’60s feel to it, which is why the photobooth is so fitting. They don’t serve food, but a taco truck is parked outside in case you get hungry. (A little tidbit for you, this place was featured in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist.)

Mel wears the Motor City Jacket, Papermaking Party Dress, One Woman Band Necklace, From Zero to Sexy Boot, and carries the Never a Dull Moment Bag.

3. Vinnie’s Pizza: After most shows you can bet that I’ll make my way over to Vinnie’s for a slice of vegan pizza. There are few places for a vegan to grab a quick bite to eat after a concert or bar late at night; this place definitely satisfies with slices like Vegan Wild Buffalo or Tomato Basil. The guys working the counter are helpful and will give you a rundown of what’s being offered.

4. Bliss Café: Nothing beats brunch after a night of dancing. Bliss is great for a vegetarian/vegan brunch. This café is located right on Bedford, making it a great place to people watch as you sip on one of their smoothies, recharge, and recount last night’s events.

Um, I actually live in Williamsburg, and this is incredibly beginner advice.
Brunch should always be at Egg. Expect to wait at least 20 minutes, but it’s worth the wait. If you’re really hungry and can’t, Enid’s.
My favorite bars are the Charleston (a free giant pizza with every drink!) and Barcade (a bar, and an arcade, with vintage arcade prices). Brooklyn Bowl is definitely awesome, but if a cool band is playing be sure to get there early.
Shop at Buffalo Exchange and Beacon’s Closet.

I agree Liane. Egg is amazing, but there are definitely some other really phenomenal places to dine, especially at Brunch. One of my favorites is Moto (south Williamsburg) Charleston has some of the best pizza around, maybe it’s cause it’s free :)

Wow, that’s quite a harsh comment. I don’t live in Williamsburg and I’m not a vegan but I’m pretty sure Mel was asked to point out what *she* likes. I doubt Egg is vegan friendly. Thanks for your input, though!

This is such a great feature. I love that your point out your favorite places to find vegetarian/vegan food! It can be tough to figure out where to eat with such a specific diet (and I do it in the Midwest, yikes!), it’s always nice to get good recommendations! :)

I really like that she included some vegan places to eat too! My sister is vegan, I’ll have to point this out to her for when she is travelling.
