Blogger of the Moment: Bleubird Vintage

Oh, what to say about Miss James of Bleubird Vintage!  She’s the epitome of who I’d like to be when I “grow up.” She has three adorable children who take part in family outfit pics, and sometimes their own. Plus, Miss James has fun tutorials on projects like pretty vintage doily necklaces, or cooking up a yummy dinner from scratch. Her blog has definitely become one of my daily reads, and I’m sure you’ll add it to your list too. Remember to take a look at her namesake dress plus her favorite ModCloth picks. And, you’ll want to read her interview to find out her secret dreams for the future.

Who are your style icons? What inspires your sense of style?
Mostly the incredible ladies of the sixties and seventies. Jane Birkin, Marianne Faithfull, Peggy Lipton, Françoise Hardy, Michelle Phillips, Penelope Tree, France Gall… the list goes on and on. Also, music inspires my style in an enormous way. I can throw on a record and just feel a certain way, which can channel the clothes I wear.

What blogs do you follow?
I don’t have time to read a lot of blogs these days because I have my hands very full with three kiddos, but a few that I do read when I have time are my friend Mandi’s blog, Here’s Looking at Me Kid, my friend Liss’ blog, Daydream Lily, Clever Nettle, and Idée Géniale.

Your whole family is very stylish—do your kids love vintage, or is that your influence?
My kids do love vintage, but I definitely think it is because of my influence. If they didn’t grow up with a mama that loved, breathed, dealt, and worshiped old things, I don’t think that they would have any interest. Luckily, they love to go thirfting with me and hit up estate and yard sales. Milla Plum especially; she loves playing dress up in my studio.

What’d be the perfect soundtrack for a day of thrifting?
Anything John Lennon or The Beatles. Who doesn’t love The Beatles?

What are your hobbies?
I thrift! That’s probably my biggest hobby. I collect vinyl and vintage coats. I also love to sew. It’s like therapy. If I’m stressed out, the one thing that always gets me feeling better is making something new.

If you could live in the pages of a book or on the set of a movie, which book or movie would it be? Why?
Hmmm… I would love to live on the set of Mad Men. The clothes, the style, the hair, the furniture, it’s all so incredible and like a dream. I just want to jump right in and run for the closets!

What would the perfect romantic date be for you?
A bottle of wine, delicious cheeses, bread, and cupcakes on a patchwork blanket in the park.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’m a natural blonde, and a bottle brunette. I dye my hair once a month to hide my blonde roots. If I let them grow out too long, it looks like I’m balding. Kinda scary!

Do you have any secret dreams for the future?
Not really. I want to open up a brick-and-mortar shop [and] sell once-loved clothing and also my own designs, and travel the world with my kids in tow. I’d also love to record an album with my “almost” husband. He has a lovely voice, and I would love to write music together. Oh, and have at least one more little baby, maybe two.

Don’t forget to check out all of Miss James’ favorite ModCloth picks!

I have to say, I used to love the blog but a few things really turned me off a few months ago.
Every time they would have a giveaway, you would have to go vote for them as the top mommy blog on some site. For one, I felt that the title should go to a blog that people actually think IS the best baby/mommy blog on the web, I don’t feel that it should be determined by people voting to win a free gift. That really turned me off from the blog, I found it very unfair. It’s unfortunate because I used to really like reading it, I even sent her an email about her blog a few months ago asking for advice and saying how much I loved it and I got absolutely no answer back.

sorry you feel that way emily. a few months ago i had a baby so unfortunately i didn’t get to all of my emails. i did the best i could to keep up. sorry if yours went unanswered. also voting was optional and hasn’t been suggested in a giveaway for months. that was when i first entered top baby blogs and saw that other bloggers did the same thing. i thought that was what everybody did. anywho… hopefully you’ll come back to read if you like the content. xo, james.

Miss James is so lovely, I’d like to think I’d be as cool a mom as she is, one day.
I love her shop, but haven’t checked it out lately. I should do that :)
And, I’m personally curious about her moniker. My nickname has been James, bc very few people have spelled or actually pronounced my name correctly, and my sister Jenn started calling me (king) james, as I am all into history and the theatrical. and Yes, lebron can suck it.
