With a new year full of mystery and potential ahead of us, I can’t help but look to the classics for clues for the coming year. In both music and fashion, I love when “oldies but goodies” and contemporary innovations meet in the middle. In the outfit below, I combined two party-perfect dresses with a collection of ageless accessories. To match, I created a soundtrack for your New Year’s festivities.
Whether you’re chilling at home, or throwing a grand party, I hope you enjoy this Style Soundtrack!

Side A
A production of classics. Those two dresses may be separated by decades, but their accessories bring it all together.
Track 1: Ablaze with Beauty Dress —With its universally flattering hourglass silhouette, this ’50-’60s dress will always be a hot topic.
Track 2: Keynote Speaker Hat —Top off an outfit of any era with a versatile hat that can hop through time like Doctor Who.
Track 3: Eyedust in Dragon Scales — It’s your time to sparkle. Give your wink a twinkle with this glimmering eye shadow.
Track 4: Gold Lion Earrings — These kitty cats will roar in 2011 with you.
Track 5: Ebony and Flow Dress — Some of you pointed out that asymmetry rules the contemporary silhouette, and I agree. Wear this for modern elegance.
Track 6: Arabian Tights — Sexy and statement-making, these tights are right for any year.
Track 7: Wish You Were Heel — Heeled, black Mary Janes. How much more classic can you get?
Side B
These are songs that I could play year after year. Featuring many goodies from Glenn Miller (a favorite since I was 13) to MGMT, and a shoutout to ModCloth’s opening of its San Francisco and Los Angeles offices with Best Coast, this playlist is one for the ages!
What else would you add to this party mix?

2 loves
I was loving this playlist when my internet browser refreshed and I can’t get it back! Could you post the list of songs? No matter how much I try to find the playlist, it won’t come back!
Hey Elisabeth!
We had some brief technical difficulties (oops!), but the playlist should be back up now. Hope you like it! Let us know what you think!

Looooove this playlist!
Love this playlist, Angela! I totally have it on repeat.
Ooh, I love both the style and song picks :)
ps, what’s a NYE playlist without some R.E.M or Beastie Boys thrown in? To balance it, I’d also add Louis Armstrong, “What a wonderful world.”
“
Jaime, I CANNOT believe I forgot the Beastie Boys. They would be perfect for the 90s section. I will make an edit to my personal playlist for sure. Thanks! :)
Yea “What a wonderful World” by Louise Armstrong is a great song! i also love how Alex Lambert sang it . :D
This is such a great idea! I am a huge music junkie and am downloading the play list now to add to my collection.
