If you’re under the impression that zines are reserved for punk rock only, you’re in for a treat. Handmade, cut-and-paste zines have never fallen out of style, giving fashion zines all the more reason to state their place. I scoured the ‘net far and wide to find a few fashion zines to call my favorites, so check them out!
As a commemoration of his fiftieth “fashion equation,” Fashematics guru Jonathan Zawada created a zine featuring illustrations of iconic runway looks modeled by zombies and robots. To say Fashematical is entertaining would be a vast understatement!
Holy Child Number Two
One of my favorite fashion bloggers, Laia of Geometricsleep, delivers a stunning follow-up to her premiere fashion zine, Holy Child. The second installation of the series includes Laia’s favorite runway looks collaged against obscure magazine cutouts and the author’s own art work. Flipping through Holy Child is like peeking into Laia’s sartorial subconscious, an experience I would recommend to any fashion fanatic!
Need more inspiration to create your own zine? Check out the Fanzines book, which provides an awesome history of zines from yesterday and today!
