Wear Your Heart on Your Knees

For me, Valentine’s Day always brings me back to my grade school days, when we would sit at our desks, making valentines with construction paper and glitter. In the spirit of those days, I decided to do a little DIY project to add a bit of flair to my Valentine’s Day outfit. I recently found a handful of vintage doilies at a local thrift shop, and thought they would be the perfect decoration for a simple pair of tights!

DIY Embellished Doilies

What you’ll need…

For this project, I found a cute pair of heart-shaped doilies at a local thrift shop, but you can also find doilies or lace at any fabric or craft shop. Since they were a little larger than I preferred, I simply cut them down to the desired size. Before trimming, I sprayed them heavily with starch to keep the edges from fraying. You can also use a product called Fray Check, which can also be purchased at a fabric store.

Since tights are so stretchy, this project is best done while wearing your tights. I opted to use a pair of opaque tights because they are thick and less likely to run while sewing, but you can also use sheer tights for a different effect. Looking for a pair? We have plenty of different sock and tights to choose from right on the site! Then, simply put them into place and sew!
