Mara Hoffman Fall 2011 via New York Magazine and “Battle of Lights, Mardi Gras, Coney Island” via USC.
Seeing the fun-tastic Mara Hoffman design at left, I was hurled back through the carnival of my mind to the dark and—at times—soporific auditorium where my college art history classes convened. It was there that I learned of Joseph Stella’s painting “Battle of Lights, Mardi Gras, Coney Island,” and the ensemble from Hoffman’s runway show yesterday reminded me of it instantly. Colors crashing like cymbals on a black background, the predominance of curves, the similarities are so thick, you can almost cut them with a pair of kiddie scissors.
What do you think of Hoffman’s design?

I think it’s gorgeous! I think I’d want to wear it with a turban! x http://www.lostinthehaze.com
beautiful! and definitely very fine art inspired. feels as though it were a painting converted to textile. love the color scheme as well xo
I think it’s really unflattering.
