As a Pittsburgh native living 2,500-plus miles away in San Francisco, I was excited to hear that indie-folk Pittsburgh band Lohio had recently played at SXSW. Yeah, Pittsburgh! (I’d actually seen Lohio play a few times before, once as the opening act for The Books, and they were awesome.)
We asked the band what we can expect from Lohio in the upcoming months, in addition to where they rec visiting in the ‘Burgh, all while listening to their tunes below!
I see you’re from the ‘Burgh! What are a few of your fave places in the ‘Burgh?
Pho Minh is a great Vietnamese restaurant that we love. Cantina is a great bar for lounging out, especially in the summer. They have an amazing outdoor patio space and have killer drink specials. In the summer it’s always great to hit the city pools; twenty bucks will get you a year long pass to all of the pools, I think my favorite is in Polish Hill.
What should peeps look forward to this year, from Lohio?
Well, we’re off to SXSW, so we’re really looking forward to all of the fun stuff and craziness that’ll be going on down there. When we get back to Pittsburgh, we’ll be hitting the studio to begin work on our upcoming full-length. A lot of it is written, but we still have some work to do on that front. Hopefully, we’ll be releasing it in the late summer or early fall.
You can find their EP, Family Tree on their Bandcamp page — my faves include “Leave the City, Leave Your Room!” and “Adelai.”
Rediscovering Lohio has definitely rekindled fond memories of my hometown. Do you have a fave band from your hometown that we should know about?
