If you miss the days when you could get style inspiration from Carrie Bradshaw, lament no more. Beth of B. Jones Style offers that offbeat style you’ve been longing for. Crazy floral prints, lush layering, heady hats, all display Beth’s alchemist-like skill at mixing and matching to make magical outfits that will make your head spin. She may not be a Broadway star (her childhood dream) but she’s certainly a shining light in the blogosphere. You’ll covet her namesake skirt and pine after her ModCloth picks. Don’t forget to read her interview to find out what makes Beth tick!
Who are your style icons? What else inspires your sense of style?
I’m inspired by women or characters who are eclectic and do their own thing, like Carrie Bradshaw, Kelly Wearstler, and Catherine Baba. I’m really inspired by movies and characters. I love renting a movie even if the content isn’t that great but the clothes are fabulous. I’m also inspired by vintage clothing—one-of-a-kind pieces that demand you dress around them.
You’re known for your eclectic style—what’s the one wardrobe staple that may not be a trend yet, but you’re rocking it anyway?
My staple is high-waisted trousers. I have been wearing those forever and LOVE them. It’s nice they are on trend now, but once they’re out I’ll probably still be wearing them. Also, any kind of hat—in or out—I will wear it. I love hats!
What blogs do you follow?
I love fashion news blogs like StyleCaster, StyleList, and Refinery29. Other favorites: The Glitter Guide (Taylor makes life pretty), Dustjacket Attic is full of beautiful inspiration, and Beckerman Bite Plate—those girls have signature style that overflows! I’m also a huge fan of interior design blogs, and a few faves are: The Decorista, Dress Design & Decor, and Everything Fabulous.
If you could live in the pages of a book or on the set of a movie, which book or movie would it be? Why?
I’m a total romantic, so I’d pick Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea. I had my first “fashion moment” [with] that movie when I was a little girl. Anne wore puff sleeves to her first ball, and I was determined to find my own puff sleeve dress. I did, and I pranced around everywhere in that dress.
If you could live in someone else’s shoes for a day, whose would they be? Why?
Probably Bobbie Thomas from the Today Show. I’d love to be a TV personality talking about fashion and educating people on how, what and wear!
Do you blog full-time, or do you have a day job? What are your hobbies?
B. Jones Style is my full-time job, but this also translates into styling, writing, and speaking opportunities. I am also the Style Ambassador for Quiksilver Women. My hobbies? Flea marketing/vintage shopping, traveling to other cities and exploring, days at the beach, and hole-in-the-wall restaurant sleuthing.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a Broadway star. Then I realized I couldn’t sing, so I had to get a new dream.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’m still that girl dreaming of Broadway stardom…not really…but I do love belting out a Broadway tune in the privacy of my own home.
Do you have any secret dreams for the future?
I’d love to have a show all about thrifting my way through America. I think Alexa Chung is already doing that…but I’ll trade spots with her.
