Ah, April — the month when the suns finally rolls out of bed, and one can practically taste the summer on their lips. Soon, we’ll all be gallivanting around in short sleeves and sunning up a storm in swimsuits.
And the sooner summer shows up, the better, because the sight of this 1955 Charm magazine editorial has given me a bad case of the sundress-and-bathing suit blues. Just look at, for one, how innovative and flattering the swimsuits in this spread are. I’m particularly wowed by the ruffle-bottomed one. It’s got a great shape and a rad print of—what is that, barrel people? Anyhow, that suit, that effortless sailor top and shorts combo, the simple-yet-chic accessorizing of those super sundresses — even those crazy culottes — all of it takes my breath away.

What’s your favorite look from this editorial?

I would love to see one of the companies you partner with in the Be the Buyer program make that first swimsuit!!
I agree with Lauren’s comment above – that first swimsuit is gorgeous and would so belong in my closet!

I love the bathing suit with the ruffles! Why don’t swimsuits look like this anymore? These are so much cuter than some of the modern swimsuits.
Wow..stunning, classic and feminine.
All these looks are great, but OMG that swimsuit is AMAZING!
Who knew culottes could be FIERCE?!
the first swimsuit is beautiful!!!!
Love the first swimsuit. I’m with Lauren on this one. It would be amazing for ModCloth to create a brand based on what the shoppers wanted! First item would be the bathing suit!
Swimsuit with ruffles!!!! Amazing! Also, the dress in the first picture is fabulous. Why, oh why can’t we all dress that way again?
The ruffled bathing suit is just so fine. Now something like that at the local YMCA would cause a commotion or two or three. So fun. Not for lap swimming though.
