Are you a fan of whimsical outfits and girly dresses? Then you’ll love Kaelah of Little Chief Honeybee! Kaelah wears a dress every single day and is known to don a candy-colored wig every now and then, but don’t think she isn’t a team player — believe it or not, this former tomboy played softball for 14 years and didn’t like wearing dresses until she was in college!
Who are your style icons? What else inspires your sense of style?
I am constantly inspired by other bloggers and ladies I see in passing. I feel like many style bloggers have a sincere grasp on fun fashion and many seem to be pretty adventurous and daring. I can pore through blogs for hours and hours, soaking in all of the inspiration without tiring. I will admit that I have a total girl crush on Elsa Billgren. Her style is flawless and feminine, and she exudes the most incredible body confidence.
If you could live in the pages of a book or on the set of a movie, which book or movie would it be? Why?
Without question, A League Of Their Own. Everything about that movie is spot-on brilliant. I played softball for at least two-thirds of my life, then I turned into a girly girl, so playing ball in a pink dress is pretty awesome. Even more fantastic is the story of the team coming together to form a seriously ballin’ (no pun intended!) group of women. I just love the whole plot. Girl power!
You’re planning your wedding, right? (Congrats!) Are there any inspiration wedding resources or blogs you’ve discovered?
Oh my goodness, yes! Thank you! I’ve been planning this wedding since I was 12, sans any suitors. I’ve had a Wedding Wednesday feature on my blog since way before I can remember, so my recent engagement has just been a dream come true! I’m poring over Once Wed, Ruffled Blog, Style Me Pretty, and updating the new wedding and event pins on Pinterest. My wedding folder on my blog is overflowing with lace, ruffles, tablescapes, dresses, and rustic barn decor. I know I’m going to blog myself out and have to somehow stop myself from checking for new ideas once we hammer down some definite plans. I’m constantly changing my mind saying “Oh this! No, now this! Oh, what about this?!” It’s an exciting time to say the least!
What blogs do you follow in general?
So many! I know I’m going to feel horrible for not listing them all and giving them credit but a few that I check every day without fail are: Jen Loves Kev, Delightfully Tacky, Keiko Lynn, SusannahBean, Rockstar Diaries, Sometimes Sweet, Fieldguided, and <3 Elycia.
Do you blog full-time, or do you have a day job? What are your hobbies?
I’m a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design, so I’m doing some freelance work here and there, but I’m also a bartender on the weekends. It’s a great 10-hour-a-week job that’s really conducive to my other creative endeavors. It lets me have an open schedule during the week to adventure and blog, and to work on a handmade business that I’m constantly trying to build. My fiance, Mike, and I love [thrifting], going on picnics, taking our fat little bulldogs to the puppy park, and going on random photo adventures with our film cameras. Other than that I’m typically found crafting something or reading blogs obsessively!
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I went through so many stages, but it definitely started in the same realm as most kids. I wanted to be an astronaut. After that, I wanted to be a lawyer because I liked to argue. Then it was a sports medicine doctor. I finally started college as a fashion design major but switched to graphic design after my first year. When it’s all said and done, however, if I could go back, I would definitely go to school for marine biology so I could be a shark biologist.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I was the polar opposite of my “current self” growing up. I was such a tomboy! I had Tenneessee Vols room decor from top to bottom. Everything was orange and white! I was so obsessed with college football. I played softball for 14 years, volleyball for five, and cheerleading for nine. The thought of a dress made me nauseous until I was in college! It’s like my entire personality did a 180! I still love sports, but you’ll never see me in anything but a dress!
Do you have any secret dreams for the future?
Not really any secret ones! I’m a firm believer in that if you want something, put it out into the universe and draw all that energy to you. I definitely want to expand on my Etsy shop and continue to evolve my handmade business. I’d love to help it flourish into something that warrants a brick-and-mortar shop in a few years. An independent boutique has been my dream since high school. I’ve gone from living in NYC by myself to wanting the whole marriage, SUV, kids, and a picket fence thing in just a few short years. I know I’d love to live on both sides of that fence and I think having my own business would be a great way to achieve that. Here’s to hoping!
