If you crave colors, Coury’s Fancy Treehouse will be a favorite for you. Her perfect pairings of color and silhouettes are so inspiring, we just had to feature her as Blogger of the Moment. With a halo of sunny California light glowing behind her platinum blonde hair, her outfits photos appear almost magical. You’ll want to channel some of Coury’s whimsical style by perusing her ModCloth picks and donning her romantic namesake dress.
Tell us about your cute doggies!
My husband and I have our Boston Terrier, “Birdie.” My family has a Boston Terrier, “Marty,” who is now 9 and was my baby when I lived at home. The third Boston pup, “Rooster,” is a new addition and lives with my parents. As you can guess, my family is obsessed with Boston Terriers (hence my pick of the Boston Terrier mug). They are super smart, super cuddly, and super sweet. Absolutely everything they do is silly. They are so emotional and a little too smart for their own good. They don’t really do any tricks because my family treats them as humans. Sad, I know, but they don’t seem to mind.
You live in L.A. How does living in such a sunny climate impact your style? Where are you from originally?
The sun affects me greatly! I have a deep affection for it and it gives me tremendous energy. At times, I do wish I had the need to master the art of warm layering. Maybe someday! I was born in Southern California and have lived all over the state. California is my home, and I will always love it dearly.
You have your own online vintage shop — what’s been most challenging about running a store? Do you do everything yourself, or do you have a team?
The most challenging thing for me is worrying about its success and wondering where to go and how to see it grow. Actually doing the work is a dream for me. I enjoy every aspect of it, especially the shopping and styling! I don’t have a team of people because it’s just not necessary at this point. Again, I say, maybe someday!
Any secret vintage stores in L.A. to share with us?
There’s a great vintage home store called Revival with amazing prices. I’ve made a few of my favorite home purchases there, including a big peacock for the wall and a great coffee table.
How do you find all the beautiful vintage pieces you wear? Any tips?
I shop a lot! A couple of days a week are dedicated to it. You have to look through every single item because you never know what’s hiding! If I’m in a hurry, I’ll look out for colors or patterns that I love at the moment or I’ve seen done in current collections. You also have to have a big imagination to see what it could be once you’ve altered and styled it. It’s definitely hard work, but well worth it.
Are there other blogs or sites that inspire your style?
I could say that every past blogger of the moment is inspiring to me. I feel like we are all kindred spirits, and I wish we all lived in the same town.
You once wrote on your blog that you enjoy the same activities as senior citizens — what are some of said activities?
Inside, I think I’m an even mix of 70-year-old woman and 9-year-old girl. I get excited about little things everyday and really pride myself on looking at life in the most positive way, much like a child would. I love everything that’s pretty, colorful, and girly. I could go to Disneyland three times a week if my schedule allowed. As far as my senior citizen tendencies go, I don’t like going out at night, I’m a total homebody. I have a thing for history and touring old houses, jazz is my favorite type of music, and I like eating dinner at 5 p.m. My idea of a good time is a quiet day drinking coffee and listening to Cole Porter songs in the sun on my (imaginary) porch. Other than all that, I’m a lot of fun.
Last but not least, what’s the story behind your first name?
It’s pronounced like Cory. My mom thought the silent “u” made the name feminine. I guess she knew I would love pink, lavender, ruffles, and bows throughout my life.
We asked Coury to style her lovely namesake dress three ways. Here’s what she whipped up:
