Stylist extraordinaire Kate Shillingford is known for being the queen of ingenious layering, and her latest editorial, photographed by Ben Toms for Vogue Russia, has me longing for cold weather and the joys of fall dressing. In punchy prints, crazy textures, and ostentatious furs, Alana Zimmer channels her inner ’70s babe in a collection of cool looks I can’t wait to emulate this fall.

What are some of the fall trends you’re looking forward to?

Your Stop Staring! Be the Buyer Picks are Here! 2

See these dresses and more at our Stop Staring! brand page.

What’s so special about the dresses up there? You brought them here! Thanks to all your Be the Buyer votes and feedback, our first collaboration with indie designer Stop Staring! was a great success, and there are now five new dresses on the site, ready for you to take home.

We loved working with the California-based clothing line to bring you a parade of fun, figure-flattering frocks that answered your calls for longer lengths, extended sizes, and, of course, a deliciously retro aesthetic. Plus, Stop Staring! is just pretty rad in general. Not surprising, since their founder and head designer, Alicia Estrada, is pretty cool herself, having started to sew at age 17 and gradually launching her business.

Where do we go from here? Well, if you haven’t voted on our Be the Buyer collaboration with Dear Creatures, do so now! And if you’ve already sounded off, just sit tight! We’ve got a lot of exciting projects on their way!

What a Peach: Cinnamon and Baked Peach Muffins 14

It’s high summer, which means it’s time for peaches!

As soon as peaches hit the markets, my mom and I always snatch ‘em up. Of course we love to snack on them in their purest form, but we can’t pass up baking with ripe peaches. One summer, we made a peach pie with only my grandmother’s handwritten pie crust recipe and our instincts as guides. The results of our experimentation were less than picture perfect, but still delicious!

In honor of all our mother-daughter baking adventures, I whipped up what I’m calling my “Surprise Inside Muffins” — cinnamon-flecked muffins with a flavorful peach core.

Fronds or Foes: Anne Emond's Houseplant Inventory 18

As someone who fancies the idea of cultivating an urban garden but tends to end up with a wilted window box, I got a kick out of Brooklyn writer and illustrator Anne Emond‘s recent comic, “Houseplant Inventory.” While the comic isn’t exactly encouraging for those of us with not-so-green thumbs, it’s always nice knowing you’re not alone.

Do you have a sorry plant story?

Falling for Flats 18

Top row, from the left: Highs and Loafers Shoe, On the Move Flat, and Rachel Antonoff for Bass Gamine Gait Flat. On the bottom: Ferry Commute Shoe, Rachel Antonoff for Bass Kissing Hearts Flat, and Kiltie Conscience Flat.

Flats are often dismissed as a lazy day-only option, but these fab flats could give any heel a run for its money. Not only can you actually run in them, these sidewalk stunners come equipped with fetching details such as tassels, kiltie fringes, and color-coordinated shoelaces. For the lowdown on all of our flats, stroll on over to our flats section.

Do you wear flats? How do you style them?

The standout editorial in Tatler’s August issue coyly asks readers,Don’t You Know Who I Am? But here’s the catch — unlike most fashion spreads which have been blogged and reblogged to the point of exhaustion on Tumblr, this editorial, photographed by Robert Trachtenberg, lacks a Karlie, a Lara, a Freja, or a Miss Wixson. Instead, style icons Grace Kelly, Tina Turner, Madonna, Twiggy, and others superficially shine in fall’s most covetable collections, as styled by Anna Bromilow. The result is a fanciful set of photos rich with modern interpretations of vintage style, aka pure perfection.
