Recommended by a ModCloth fan on our Facebook page, the art of Brandi Strickland is a hue-saturated gallery you do not want to pass up. The Virginian mixed media and collage artist is young at the age of 25, yet her unique style spans ages. Many of Strickland’s works can be found in the form of a series, such as the collection “Dark Crystal” (featured above and below), which features vibrant prism-like hues bursting out of the most interesting pieces and places.

Her work also transcends photography, as well as the occasional creative collaboration, from an album cover for Bird and Flower to promotional illustrations for designer Macha Jewelry. Images from other series, such as “Companion Star” (below), transform to tell narratives of the human condition assimilated with myth and metaphor with images of cats in space, textures, and geometry with each inch of mixed media.

If you could own one of her vibrant pieces, which one would you choose to liven up your living space?

I’ve always had a fascination for mixed media art. Sometimes it’s amazing, and sometimes it looks like it was done by a child. I do like Brandi’s art though. I think the 2nd and 3rd picture are probably my favorites.

I like that first one with the girl’s head and the prism. It reminds me of the Bat For Lashes song, “Glass”. If you guys haven’t listened to BFL, well… *hint, hint*.
Spacey and surreal! Two of my favorites qualities. :)
very cool work. LOVE it!
