No Place Like ‘Home-page’ Photo Contest!

We just can’t get enough of Instagram! This totally awesome app has a bevy of fun filters, so we can get creative with our behind-the-scenes pics, then easily share our artistic images with fans. We also can’t thank you enough for welcoming us into the Instagram community with all of your convivial comments on our photos. Or, can we?

In order to show our appreciation for your support during our foray into this fantastic new photographic frontier, we are holding the No Place Like ‘Home-page’ Photo Contest! To enter, just take a gander at our current stylebook, A Welcome Retreat, and then using the hashtag #homepagehero in Instagram, submit your own photo that you feel best reflects the woodsy, rustic, fall mood of the collection.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve snapped the pic in Instagram, or used the app to enhance a pic you’ve already taken, just as long as you get it to us between 12 p.m. PT on 10/31 and 12 p.m. PT on 11/7. We’ll whittle the wonderful submissions down to three lucky shutterbugs, who will find their photos featured front-and-center on the ModCloth homepage!

Before you go a-shootin’, please do a little readin’ of the deets:

  • Please, only one entry per person.
  • By posting a photo, you state that you own its copyright.
  • Submissions may not be altered by Photoshop or any other filtering tool outside of Instagram.
  • Winning photos will be selected by ModCloth, based on creativity, quality of image, and adherence to the theme, then posted to the homepage on Monday, 11/14.
  • Read full, official contest rules here.

We can’t wait to pore over your pictorial interpretations of our stylebook. Good luck!

Is there a prize for the three lucky winners?

  2. Olga 11/01/2011 at 9:46 am #

Does a person have to have a I-phone to be able to participate?

  3. ModCloth 11/01/2011 at 11:11 am #

Hi Madison! The prize is having your photography featured on the ModCloth homepage.

Olga, this particular contest is for Instagram users. Instagram is currently only available for the iPhone. We are always launching new contests, so keep your eyes open. :)

My question is similar to Olga’s. Can one enter the contest using someone else’s iPhone/Instagram account – sender and photographer are two different people.

What a cool contest! I’m so far from woodsy and rustic that I don’t think I will enter (who knows?), but I still love the contest.

You are excluding your customers who have droid phones. Instagram is not available. Could you modify the contest to include other photo apps.

    • Lilya 11/03/2011 at 11:08 am #

I agree completely and would like to participate in the contest. Since I don’t have an iPhone, that’s not possible. Not cool Modcloth – is there a reason you couldn’t pick a similar app for Android users to submit photos with as well? It seems like it would be fair to let Android users submit pictures as well. Would you consider giving a prize for the Instagram picture, and one for an Android app picture?

I agree–don’t understand why it couldn’t be any photo. Pretty disappointed here.

Great time of year to get some awesome colors from Instagram! Every day I’m amazed at how interesting leaves and sunsets keep looking.

    Hi, Jarlo, Pixelpixie, and Lilya!

We are really excited about the Instagram platform, so this particular contest is an opportunity to engage with fans who are using the app. We will definitely keep your suggestions in mind, as we brainstorm new contests for you. Thanks so much!

Retro photography apps are exciting however, your response is disappointing and results in a poor reflection on your company. Sure instagram is trendy but modcloth is limiting it’s potential buzz, new customers, and exciting marketing opportunities through opening up pic contest to users choice of photo app than being instagrams pawn.

Umm seriously, it’s an Instagram contest, and they already said they’d consider other options in the future. Every contest that has ever happened came with certain rules and restrictions, so this contest is in no way a poor reflection on ModCloth.

Also, the prize is having your image published on their site; it’s not like you’re winning a tangible prize. So really this is not something to get super upset about.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I accidentally entered three photos but can’t alter the tags on Instagram. What do I do? Don’t want to be disqualified :(

    • ModCloth 11/05/2011 at 1:32 pm #

Hey, Emma! You can just comment on your photos with the hashtag #homepagehero, and we’ll find ‘em. Hope that helps, and good luck!

I agree with pixelpixie, i have a diffreent app on my phone ( not an Iphone) and would really love to share my pictures but i was dissapionted it was only for this certain phone and this certain app. Please think broader about the limits people have for contests next time.

yeah…for those of us who can’t afford an iphone, android, or ANY kind of phone that has a photo app, a contest that worked with, say, an online photo editor or converter sure would be nice :).

for example, a quick google search reveals this similar-to-instagram program, available as a free google chrome app (google chrome also being free) or online. http://www.instantretro.com/

I feel for everyone, I really do, as I LOVE photography. However, the iphone is special because of their camera specifications. It’s pretty much a professional camera in your pocket. I owned a droid for the longest time, the camera was good, but the iphone is so much better. Instagram makes the great photos you take with the iphone into amazing shots, or you don’t even need a filter to share.
