This week, we took some time to get to know British babe Sarah of The Stylish Heart. You won’t catch this cool cat without a jaunty chapeau, and will find she’s a well-balanced gal who shares her time blogging, working, and studying accounting. If she could realize her dreams, she’d travel across the pond to explore the States. You’ll love her playful namesake dress, which is adorned with galloping steed, and her ModCloth faves that portray her classic style with a modern twist.
How would you describe your aesthetic?
I stick to simple things — I don’t like anything that’s too garish or too uncomfortable. I always think about the silhouette of an outfit, too. I like to mix textures, like knitwear with leather, or denim with patent shoes. I tend to wear plain colors, but always with a pattern thrown in. An outfit never feels complete to me unless it has a pattern in there somewhere!
In a wardrobe face-off, who would win — polka dots or stripes? Why?
This is a really tough question! Stripes are so classic and versatile, but dots are a bit more fun. Okay, stripes. No, dots. Stripes. Dots. Both?
What’s your favorite part about winter fashion?
The fact that you can wear so many of your clothes in one go! Other than that, I’d say the colors. I love burgundys, forest greens, navys, and mustards. It just doesn’t feel the same wearing them in summer.
You’re a native of England, but is there anywhere else you’d love to live?
America, actually! I’ve been dying to visit for years now. The whole country just seems so much more picturesque than England. I love [that] there is such a wide variety of landscapes over there. On my list of places to visit: San Francisco, NYC, and Portland. I’ll make it over the sea one day!
Do you blog full-time, or do you have another day job?
I don’t blog full-time; I have a full-time job instead. I’m currently training to be an accountant, which isn’t quite as dull as it sounds. I love working with numbers and problem solving. It’s not my dream job, though. I’m not too sure what my dream job is yet. Hopefully I can have fun trying to work that out.
Tell us the story behind the name of your blog.
Well, I came to blogging fairly late, and so when it came to picking my blog name, most of the good stuff had gone. So I sat and had a good think, and thought about what I believe makes a good blog. Being stylish, obviously, so that part was easy. Then I thought about what I try and apply to my daily life — always listening to your heart and believing in yourself. It’s important for me to always wear clothes that I truly love, and to put my heart into everything I do/wear. So my blog is about things that I heart!
What are your daily online reads?
Oh, I have so many. Calivintage, Trini, Flashes of Style, Fancy Treehouse, and Wish Wish Wish are a few of my very favorites. I love being a part of this amazing community!
Sarah showed us how she’d style her namesake dress for a (very stylish) walk in the park.
She whipped up a lovely look by pairing her namesake dress with the When Do Oui We Land? Beret, Out All Night Coat, Under the Equator Heel, Tights for Every Occasion in Wine, and Buck and Forth Ring. How would you style The Stylish Heart Dress?
