What’s that, 1971 ‘Teen Magazine? You dare me to wear an armful of bracelets? Ooh, I’m shaking in my shiny pink pumps. Wait, now you dare me mix prints using that shirt with those pants? Err, I’m not so sure about it.
Though this vintage editorial was meant to encourage cutting-edge style, much of it now is now a barrel of retrospective laughs, much like our recent Fashion Faux Pas-t contest, and it’s too good not to share!
For example, would you “put your hair in twenty braids” woven with ribbon? Would it look terrible if you did twenty-one? Or, how do you feel about painting flowers in your hair? Actually, wait, could someone first explain to me how that even works? What about wearing a velour sweater to a dressy event? I’m pretty sure that if I followed through with any of these recommendations as a 1970′s teen, I’d look back at the result and groan. ‘Course ,there are a few good suggestions in this editorial, but overall, it’s a riot.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, upon this editorial’s advice I’m off to send a poem to my boyfriend and sign my girlfriend’s name. Think it will go over well?

Wow…..I probably would never try the eyeshadow/lipstick combo, but then again, if I was a ’70s chick, I just might. So cute, Modcloth! I love your Page Turners! :D
that feather vest is pretty amazing though!
Haha, I would probably actually try some of these but most of them are Teen Beat horrors of homecoming dances past :)
“to shorten your hair without taking a snip” …if that’s ‘shortened’ hair on that girl, her hair must be rapunzel length!
That is completely amusing! Love it.
I like that there are some DIY projects in there! Make yourself a dress! Change a man’s dress shirt in to a stylish wardrobe piece! YES!
my favorite… “we dare you… to grow a few feet of shiny, healthy hair.” yeah, i’ll get on that right away. haha. this was awesome!
So funny! Thanks for the Saturday evening laugh… definitely needed this week. xxx
