Helena of the blog Brooklyn Blonde hails from NYC and her style reflects an urban sophistication with fitted blazers, tidy topknots, and sleek locks. But her look isn’t without playfulness; Helena isn’t afraid to experiment with color, and this vibrancy is what makes her ensembles pop. She’s a stylist who has thrown the traditional career path to the wind in order to freelance (which feels like an obvious inclination for Helena because of her dynamo dress-up skills).
You’ve called New York home all your life, right? If you could live anywhere else, where would that be?
Yes, NYC has been home my entire life. I really cannot picture living anywhere else except Barcelona! My fiancé and I visited there last spring and fell in love with the food, culture, people and just their way of life. I cannot wait to go back!
We’ve heard that you speak Russian fluently. Is this something you studied in school, or did you grow up speaking Russian?
I grew up with parents who emigrated from Russia, so it was essentially the first language I learned.
When you’re not blogging, what are you up to?
I’ve been working in the fashion industry right out of college, but left my 9-5 job almost a year ago. Now I’m working as a freelance stylist, which is something I’ve always dreamed of doing!
After fashion, what’s your second passion?
I’ve always said that if I didn’t work in fashion, I’d want to work in entertainment. I love pop culture, movies, TV shows… Award show season is one of my favorite times of year. I’m a bit of a TV junkie.
If someone were to play you in a movie, who would it be?
Ooh, that’s a hard one! Emma Stone, since I adore her, but from a physical stand point, that wouldn’t really work, would it?
What blogs do you read for inspiration?
Way too many! My Style Pill, Keiko Lynn, Cheetah is the New Black, This Time Tomorrow, Eat Sleep Wear, Pink Horrorshow, Wendy’s Lookbook, Le Fashion, Because I’m Addicted, and Fashion Vibe are a few favorites.
Do you have any secret dreams for the future?
To style a window at one of the major NYC department stores.
Here’s how Helena styled her namesake romper for brunch with her fiancé and friends!
Helena whipped up a wonderful outfit around the Brooklyn Blonde Romper with the Longing for Lavender Heel, Home Sweet Hoboken Bag, Tri Again Ring, Quite the Sight Sunglasses, and Rain Supreme Scarf in Grey. You can find all her faves here.
