The Making of Make the Cut – Step 1

Fire up the confetti cannons, slide on your dancing shoes, and let out a cheer, because our premiere Make the Cut collection is almost here! On Wednesday, our inaugural collection officially launches. The twelve garments that you helped design and vote for will no longer be “Coming Soon” — they’ll be here, available for purchase, ready to fly into boxes and arrive on your doorstep.

But how did these pieces go from contest sketches to real dresses? We’re glad you asked. This week, we’ll be showing you “The Making of Make the Cut.” This new blog series is an exclusive look at how the collection came to be, from the first stitch to the final styling.

Designing and producing a line is a complex process, so we’ve broken it down into five key steps. Each day this week, we’ll walk through one step, right here on the blog. Today, we revisit that first Make the Cut contest and see how it all began…

Is there another Make the Cut in the near future? Even if I don’t win, it is a blast getting those creative wheels turning. :)

Will there be a Make the Cut that offers a dress or two for us fats (size 16+) out here that LOVE Modcloth too?

I agree with Rory. I would love to see more styles for us curvy girls! I love Modcloth but being a size 16 makes it very hard… Sigh..
