When I first started ModCloth out of my dorm room, it quickly became clear that I had a lot to learn about how things ran in the fashion industry. Processes like buying, networking, and fundraising seemed intimidating when I first faced them — but now, with ModCloth boasting three offices and over three hundred employees, I’m proud to say I’ve picked up a few things. It wasn’t without some guidance, however. Below are a few of my favorite resources for women who are looking to get started in the business world…
The Biz Ladies: This Design*Sponge column provides tons of great tips and inspiring interviews for creative businesses.
Women 2.0: Full of resources and information for female entrepreneurs, Women 2.0 hosts Founder Friday events in cities across the globe – I was even lucky enough to speak at one in San Francisco recently!
Ladies Who Launch: This inspiring, informative site helps connect you with other entrepreneurial-minded ladies in your area. You can also find lots of interviews with women who are making a mark in the business world.
Sheryl Sandberg’s TED Talk: This thought-provoking speech by Facebook’s COO is one of the smartest pieces I’ve seen that tackles the question of how we get more women into leadership roles in business.
Speaking of women leaders in the tech industry, there’s been a lot of press lately around companies whose boards lack a female presence. I’m extremely proud that ModCloth’s board is 50% female, as is our senior executive team!

I’m always looking for more inspiration from fellow female go-getters. Do you have any favorite interviews, talks, or quotations to share?
