With the official first day of summer in only a week, we thought we’d celebrate the season with flower crown fit for a fairytale! (Or an outdoor wedding, summer festival, or any day you please.)
When it comes to constructing your very own flower crown, there really are no rules, but for our version we stuck with simple supplies to make a floral crown to last you through the summer.
Midsummer’s Eve Flower Crown
Materials Needed
Fake flowers
Floral tape
Floral wire
Scissors
Ribbon or string
We swung by the local craft store to procure our supplies, even the flowers! When it comes to selecting flowers, you can go as big and bold or small and sweet as you’d like. We chose a variety of medium-sized pastel flowers in pretty shades of minty green and pale peach.
1. Measure the wire across the top of your head. Using your fingers as “markers,” determine where you want the row of flowers to end (we decided on a little past the ears). Cut the wire to the desired length. Then, lay out your selection of flowers in front of the wire, rearranging them until you find a composition that suits you.
2. Wrap the entire length of wire with floral tape. Then, create two loops at both ends by bending the wire and twisting it a few times (this is where you’ll attach your ribbon later).
3. Now, for the flowers! Simply tear off small segments of floral tape and begin wrapping each flower stem to the wire. We started in the center and worked our way to each end, so that all of the flowers faced forward.
(If you want a more subtle accent piece, you can opt to use only a few flowers, but for this festive crown we used enough flowers to wrap all the way around the sides.)
4. Attach two strands of ribbon through the loops that you created earlier, and snip them to your desired length.
You’re ready to go!
