If your summer playlist is lacking fierce female vocals, then Bay Area indie group My First Earthquake is your fix. The beginning of their latest album, Friction, starts off strong, with catchy, summer jam goodness. Dive a few tracks in, and silliness slowly takes over — you’ll know it when you hit the ballad with lyrics like, “Enya don’t got nothin’ on us!” Check out their Bandcamp page to stream any of their four albums, and check often, as it looks like they’ll be adding another one to the roster soon.
Fun fact: Three-fourths of My First Earthquake’s members separately attended Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University, but it wasn’t until the members crossed paths in San Francisco that they formed the band we know today… which reminds us of our own roots in Pittsburgh and San Francisco! Crazy! We like to think that great minds think alike.
