From Sketches to the Stars: Meet Our New Stylebook!

ModCloth's "Above & Beyond" stylebook

Our new stylebook, Above & Beyondreally takes summer-fall fashion over the moon! But, we didn’t just start with some of your favorite items and a lovely model. We had a vision of studying the sky in an imaginative way, and that’s not something you see every day. To bring this vision to reality, we started with sketches straight out of the imagination, built an impressive set, and wrote copy and designed graphics inspired by the subject. Check out these .gifs to see the process in motion!

Visual & Communications Designer Joe took stock of our stylebook team’s ideas — star maps, telescopes, science textbooks, and more. With Danielle, our Head of Photography, he drew out each scene, noting which props might be used. While Creative Stylist Annie planned the adorable outfits, writer Angela and Graphic Designer Aya discussed an abstract approach to the scenes. Putting together the handmade set, Joe and Danielle staged wondrous scenes. Our lovely model Lindsay fits right into them!

Inspired by the good ol’ school days, the copy and design work together as an homage to those textbooks and other educational materials that dazzled our minds as young ones. In the end, each piece together creates a stylish experience!

I think the girl in the sketches (wearing the nice dress) is prettier.
