Last weekend we invited Bay Area college students and recent grads to our San Francisco office to learn more about working in the fashion business during our first ever ModAcademy Fashion Workshop. We wanted to share some of the highlights on our blog, including some of the fab outfits we spotted. Topics ranged from drafting the perfect cover letter and resume to emerging social media.
The day began with ModCloth co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Susan sharing the story of how ModCloth got its start. We even got to see adorable snapshots of baby Susan playing dress up in her grandma’s clothes!
Winston helped Susan with her presentation by being cute.
We invited local designers to talk about how they started their own fashion lines. Jena, ModCloth’s Head of Private Label, moderated the discussion with Jocelyn Nguyen of Nous Savons, Paulina Berczynski of FluffyCo, and Deirdre Nagayama and Stacy Rodgers of Curator.
The event benefited About-Face, a local nonprofit that aims to educate young women and girls about how media can impact body image. Kjerstin Gruys walked us through a workshop that gave us the tools to be cognizant of the way media can affect self esteem.
We rounded out the day with a panel focused on getting your foot in the fashion door. Mini, our Graphic Design Manager, facilitated a conversation with Jennie Lodge of Threadflip and the blog Going West, Maria Morales of Poshmark, and Lorraine Sanders, the SF-based journalist and founder of SF Indie Fashion.
But the day wouldn’t have been complete without some swoon-worthy ensembles. Check out the pics we nabbed during the day!
Well, that’s a wrap! If we took ModAcademy on the road, where would you like to see it next?
