Take a Trip with Whimsical LA Designer Locketship

Rainbow beads, gobs of glitter, and critters-a-plenty are just a few of the whimsical elements that make Locketship pieces into memorable statement-makers. Designer Maria Ewing looks for inspiration in a miriad of magical places before crafting the goods, many of which feature original artwork and photography of her favorite furry friends. Best of all, these standout accessories are all handmade in Maria’s home in LA, where she continues to live after graduating in 2004 from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.

Sound like your cup of tea? Keep reading to peek at some of her most spectacular pieces!

We hear you’re quite the vintage enthusiast! What’s the coolest piece you’ve ever stumbled across?
Ahhh, there have been so many, but my favorite so far is a 1960′s green and white striped Miss Elliette dress with a Peter Pan collar for $6! Woohoo!

Has music ever inspired your work, and what kind, if so?
Yes! All kinds, but recently my friend Doll Skills made me an AWESOME playlist that puts me in a magical mood. Wanna hear?

Elephants or cats?
Cats, of course! You can’t cuddle with an elephant.

What’s your favorite planet, and why?
Earth — because cats live here!

Popsicles or chocolate?
Popsicles for the fun colors and shapes, chocolate for taste — especially chili-flavored chocolate! YUM!

If you came face-to-face with your favorite style icon, who would it be, and which of your pieces would you give her?
Katy Perry! I would give her all the cat pieces I’ve made, especially the NeaPAWlitan Heart Necklace since she’s also a cat lover. Meow!

Thanks, Maria!

I really like your styles but is there anyway to add a few inches to the length? We can always shorten them but letting the hem down can pause a problem. Also as we all have different waistlines would it not make sense to make the waisted dresses in stretchable fabrics?

      Hi, Izzy!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I believe you are referencing ModCloth dresses, not the necklaces above, yes? If so, I think you might find this link to our longer-length dresses helpful! As a tall gal myself, this is where I find a lot more options that work well for me. http://www.modcloth.com/shop/longer-length-dresses

Also, I’ll definitely pass your comments along to my teammates, and I encourage you to vote on pieces via Be the Buyer. You can help us select dresses that better suit your tastes, and that’s exactly what we aim to do! http://www.modcloth.com/storefront/products/be_the_buyer

      Have a great day!
