Old Photographs Given New Life

Set me in front of a box of yellowing, old photographs, and I’ll completely tune out my surroundings, lost in a trance like an asp curling to the music of a snake charmer’s pungi. Plunging into this lost past is fascinating, and judging from her eerie-meets-incredible art, I’m guessing that artist Amy Friend feels the same way. Taking old images and carefully pinpricking them with light, Ms. Friend has done what I would have thought impossible: she made old photographs even more hauntingly interesting.
