Who: Suzan of Studio Jopie
What: Secondhand chemistry bottles
Where: A local school in the Netherlands. “My husband is a chemistry teacher, and whenever I visited him at work, I was asking for those old bottles, so I was very happy to hear that they would throw the old bottles away. My husband took these home on his bicycle, and luckily, nothing broke.”
How much: Free
When I use it: ”I use them as vases, although sometimes that doesn’t work due to the substances that used to be the bottles.”
Shopping tips: “In the Netherlands, vintage is very popular. One of the biggest and most famous flea markets is the IJhallen, where you can find all sorts of things, but my shopping tip would be to try more small and local flea markets, so you can find really rare things. My other two tips are to start early (I know, no fun, but that is why they invented coffee) and negotiate over the price.”
