The blog Sincerely, Kinsey — headed up by Kinsey herself — is not just another personal style blog. Besides being a whiz with the camera (she’s a professional photographer!), Kinsey offers up DIYs that are uniquely her style: bohemian, relaxed, and edgy. In addition to having an awesome blog, Kinsey is the sort of gal you’d want as your friend, always there to reinvigorate your creative side and encourage you to do what you love. But don’t take my word for it. Read our interview with her below, nab her namesake dress, and draw inspiration from her hand-picked ModCloth faves.
As a professional photographer, what’s the most fun thing you’ve ever shot?
Our most memorable opportunity has to be our recent trip to India. We were honored to travel all over India to photograph a wedding and explore with the bride and groom for two weeks. It was the adventure of a lifetime.
You’re a contributor to A Beautiful Mess and are also on the Red Velvet Art team — how would you describe a typical work day there?
I spend three days a week contributing to the A Beautiful Mess (ABM) team. What I love most about working with Elsie and Emma is that there is always a new and exciting project to work on. A basic day there consists of creating and photographing DIY projects and helping them behind the scenes of ABM. I’m always learning, growing, and becoming more inspired the longer I work there.
You have so many creative DIY posts on your blog. How do you come up with new crafting ideas?
My biggest source of inspiration comes from other creative individuals around me. When I see others sharing their talents with the world, it pushes me that much more to pursue my own creative dreams.
How would you describe your personal style?
Bohemian, free, and relaxed.
As a native of the Midwest, do you think your style is influenced by your home? How?
It’s neat to see how our culture plays into the style of our wardrobe and home. We’ve found we love rich, earth tones, and a Midwestern meets modern vibe.
What blogs do you read for inspiration?
Some of the greatest inspirational blogs for me are those with few words and a lot of visual inspiration. Lately I’ve been viewing A Well Traveled Woman, Kinfolk, and That Kind of Woman.
What’s your go-to makeup and hair regiment?
I usually go two routes with hair and makeup. On a day where I want to look my best, I give my hair a wavy curl. For makeup I apply a bronzer, copper eye shadow, deep black mascara, and the cat-eye with a deep black eyeliner. On a more casual day, I like to throw my hair up in a sock bun. My makeup will usually just consist of mascara, the cat-eye, and some lip balm!
If you had a party and could invite anyone, who would be the three guests on the top of your list?
This question could have me running in circles, but at the end of the day, I think I would find it most enjoyable if it were the people I love and care about most. I would have to choose my husband, my sister, and my sweet momma. When I think of a party, I imagine it filled with stories, memories, and love-saturated conversations. They would be on the top of my list because throughout my life they’ve been the biggest influences. They will always be my first choice as a VIP.
Describe your dream three-course meal.
Panera’s broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. Oh, and brownies and ice cream. Duh.
Kinsey’s namesake dress is the perfect accompaniment to one of her photo shoots.
Kinsey styled her dress practically and stylishly with the First Light Sweater, Truly Gritty and Gorgeous Bag, Pom and Dance Scarf in Mustard, Cargo for It Map Travel Journal, and Have a Good Skip Boot. How would you wear the Sincerely, Kinsey Dress?
