Our Make the Cut Winner Styles the Make It Zig Dress 2 Ways

Jenn wears the Make It Zig Dress with the Whirlwind Tour JacketJeffrey Campbell Penny Me In FlatCat Eye Cutie Sunglasses, Verdant It Be Lovely? Earrings, and Through the Post Clutch.

Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of our latest Make the Cut dress – the Make It Zig Dress, by winner Athena Anger. For this edition of our community-driven design contest, we tried something new, offering up a single swatch of chevron fabric for contestants to dream up their own unique designs. After tallying up your votes on Facebook, we had a clear winner with Athena’s excellent entry.

We couldn’t be happier to turn her dream dress into a reality, and were so excited by her versatile design that we asked Athena to show us how she’d style her winning frock!

“This style of dress can be worn for multiple occasions,” says Athena. “The dress alone could be paired with light accessories, bright flats, or pumps for a light summer brunch. Or, for a summer soirée, a cardigan and belt could be added. I think that the simplicity of the cut, with the busy zig-zag pattern, is an easy look for any occasion, any time of day.” And, as you can tell by these looks worn by ModEmployees Jenn and Sarah, this black and white creation can easily transition for almost every occasion.

Sarah sports the Make It Zig Dress with the Statement of the Art Necklace, World’s Tiniest Violin Necklace, Whoopsie Daisy Earrings, Seychelles Fever Pitch Bootie, and Full Course Load Bag.

Of her design process, Athena was incredibly thoughtful: “When I started designing this piece, I figured that I wanted all shapes and sizes to be able to wear such a garment. The cut of the sweetheart neckline with the boning of the bodice compliments collarbones, and gives a slimming effect with the swirling of the already busy pattern. I just wanted to create a garment that complements anybody. My sole dream is to become a fashion designer.”

Her design easily translates into a range of sizes, which is why we’re happy to announce that it will be available in sizes XS through 4X. (If your size isn’t yet available, simply sign up for a notification and we’ll email you the moment it’s available!)
