Shake Things Up: Make a DIY Summer “Snow” Globe!

DIY Summer Snow Globes from the ModCloth Blog

Who says winter snow globes get to have all the fun? If dreaming of wintry days in picturesque, miniature villages (where there always seems to be a carriage-drawn horse) isn’t your thing, then join us in shaking up the perception of what a “snow” globe should be! We took our love of snow globe kitsch, and swam with it.

This summer “snow” globe DIY is a salute to warm places, aquatic atmospheres, glitter, mermaids, seals, and whales. Tip: Find a unique jar in the condiments aisle of your local grocery store – I re-purposed a jar from garlic-stuffed olives. Not only did I get a super affordable and cute option for my DIY summer globe, but I also had delicious olives leftover to make homemade tapenade! Have fun making your own version, and if you share it on a social network, tag your pic with #summerglobe so we can see your cute creation!

ModCloth ladies always have the best ideas! The aquarium section of a pet store would be a good place to find just the right figurines. A summer globe would be great on a porch or patio table. I’m going to make a few!!

What a brilliant yet simple Do-It-Yourself project! I love it, especially since one can make a “Snow” Globe with the centerpiece and size of one’s choosing. Now I’ll be keeping an eye out for the right jars and centerpiece pieces.

Can you add food coloring to the baby oil to change the color?

Maybe if you add water too (because water and oil don’t mix) then you can get lava lamp effect with coloring
