When does the fashion student become the master? Now! We are hosting a contest on our Style Gallery honoring the July vintage collection, Textbook Style. The vintage vibe of your look could win a $100 gift certificate.

Entering is a cinch. Browse the goodies in our Textbook Style collection, create a look inspired by one special piece, snap a photo of your ensemble, and upload it to the Style Gallery. When uploading your shot, you must tag the vintage item that caught your eye as ‘similar’, so we know it’s a submission to our Textbook Style Contest. You can always search and select the ModCloth pieces ‘pictured’ in or ‘similar’ to those in your outfit pic, but tagging an item from our Textbook Style collection turns your pic into an contest entry.

SG Mock Up

We’ll consider Style Gallery entries until 11:59 p.m. PT on 7/3. A $100 GC will be awarded to the winner chosen by Sari, our Vintage Buyer, and a $25 GC will go to two runners-up. Talk about a lesson ‘earned’!

But before you get started, study up on these deets:

  • All entries must be submitted to the Style Gallery. No email submissions will be accepted.
  • Anyone who shares an outfit pic on the Style Gallery and tags a vintage item from the Textbook Style collection as ‘similar’ is entered into the contest. Contestants can post as many outfit photos as they want. Each one counts as a contest submission.
  • All submissions must be uploaded to the Style Gallery by 11:59 p.m. PT on 7/3.
  • Photo files must be at least 462 pixels wide and adhere to our Community Guidelines.
  • Winners will be selected based on how they style a vintage look and use the Texbook Style collection as inspiration.
  • One winner will receive a $100 GC, and two runners-up will each receive a $25 GC.
  • Winners will be contacted by email and announced on 7/8 via the ModCloth Blog.
  • If you have questions, review our contest rules, or email community@modcloth.com.

UPDATE (7/9/2013) - Pencils down, everyone! Let’s hear it for all the outfit pics inspired by this vintage collection. Check out Anna’s winning shot, and the runner-up ensembles by Jordan and Megan.

I’m confused–Do we have to purchase a piece from the collection to use in our ensemble?

    • ModCloth 07/02/2013 at 12:35 pm #

Niki! Thanks for your comment. No worries — no purchase necessary! Just let a piece from the collection inspire your look, and then tag it as ‘similar’ in your Style Gallery upload!

Nikki, I think you just have to pick and tag an item, let’s say is the platt skirt and then put together an outfit with your clothes inspired by one of the pieces on this vintage collection. It does sound confusing!

I don’t get it? How do you “pick and tag an item”? Do you make a wishlist? I also don’t understand how you tag items on modcloth. Please give more in-depth instructions on how this works!

    • Alexandra Marie 07/02/2013 at 10:48 am #

Hey Kelly! When you upload your picture there is a search bar. You just look up textbook style and click on the items that inspired your look to tag them. You will see them pop into a little window next to your picture- slide the little bar from “pictured” to “similar”. Hope that helps!

    • ModCloth 07/02/2013 at 12:36 pm #

Kelly, sorry for any confusion! When you’re uploading a pic to the Style Gallery, you can tag the ModCloth items appearing in or inspiring your look. If you tag an item from the Textbook Style Collection, then your upload will count as an entry to the contest! :)

      • Kelly R 07/02/2013 at 1:09 pm #

Thank you for your help! I’ve already submitted two different outfits :)

Can we combine the textbook style clothes with other items from the ModCloth website or does it have to all be from the textbook style selection? I was going to use a regular pair of shoes and leggings on your website with the rest from the “textbook style” selections.

Kelly — We enjoyed seeing all the entries to this contest! Some people tagged one piece from the Textbook Style Collection, while others tagged several items from it. Either way, the uploads were a hit!

For a picture of the whole outfit do we take a picture of ourselves wearing it?

    • ModCloth 07/08/2013 at 12:13 pm #

Courtney, Yes! Our Style Gallery is full of amazing looks styled and worn by our community! Have fun sharing your outfit pics.

  6. Kelly R 07/03/2013 at 10:05 am #

So we do have to buy one of these pieces and take a picture of ourselves wearing it? How is that possible if the contest ends tonight at midnight?

    • ModCloth 07/08/2013 at 12:12 pm #

Kelly — Sorry for any confusion. No purchase necessary. We just wanted to see you use your wardrobe to style a look inspired by the collection. Thanks!

Where on the site were the winners announced yesterday? I can’t find it. Is it somewhere in the style gallery?
